Blackdude
The Q has no problem bringing in anglo's from the maritimes..... The Impact has an Anglophone high school partner in Lester B Pearson. But, from their faq, they mention that players are from different regions of Quebec, so I wouldn't be surprised if they only go at players who are in the province. Levi Oakey
Anyone able to watch this? I must have missed the game as all I see is Panama vs. Costa Rica and they just started. Jordan Hamilton tweeted that we we're slicing up the US defence, but I haven't seen a score.
Soccerpro
Canada loses 2-0 to the U.S. By all accounts the U.S was dominant and should of had a few more goals. It would be nice if Canada could score a goal in the last game against Costa Rica. Our youth camps have had been pretty uninspiring, results wise lately. I realize results aren't the main emphasis, but damn, a goal here and there would be nice.
matthew
I watched it. I'll write more whenever the US soccer puts its match report up so I can put names to faces. Generally the U.S. were the better team and this is the best U.S. U17 team I've seen in a couple of cycles. They were talented all over the field. You could definitely see the Floro influence on how we were playing. We were really pressing the midfielders and there was a sense of pace and purpose to our counter attacks. There was some quality and some pace in our attacking players, but we didn't have a lot of size in the team. We got into some good areas out wide, but didn't really have many crossing options. We combined well through the middle with short passes at times, but not often enough. Some of that was being on the same page as far as making the final pass to time with the run. And some of that was the U.S. reading our attacks well and cutting balls out and winning balls back. The Americans had great athleticism and size and they had a few real quality, quality players. I thought we had some dangerous players, but no one that really made me excited in the way that seeing a Hanson Boakai or Jordan Hamilton did the first time. The defence had a poor start, but settled down fairly well (I thought we were going to get killed after the first 10 minutes) and I think our right back was arguably our best player. The keeper had a few errors and didn't do well on the second goal, but couldn't have done anything on the first. We had a good end to the first half and came out to start the second half more composed and played fairly well. We had a few chances to tie the game, but the U.S. was the better side on the whole without question. Overall this looks like a team that should contend for a spot in the World Cup in February, but I didn't think looked as strong as the team two years ago. But things can change pretty quickly at this age group, so hopefully they keep growing and developing. cheers, matthew
maccaliam
Thanks for that Matthew. I tried to catch the match but wasn't able to.
Keegan
Is Raheem Taylor Parkes on the US team? It doesn't seem like a name has really popped up yet that is the leader of this generation. I remember in 2009 Teibert was a name before qualifying, Aleman and Alderson in 2011 and 2013 Boakai, Bustos and Hamilton.

Soccerpro
Bad news : Canada 2 Costa Rica 5 We actually scored a goal, that's a positive. The negative seems to be getting outplayed pretty badly every game. Are we missing any vital players? Otherwise, qualifying seems pretty tough next year. Footymom
Bigger story is lack of contribution from NASL academies! What's going on with FC Edmonton and Ottawa Fury? I am sure there got a player or two good enough to play for Canada. Fury has some excellent players but don't play in Canada except for ex games so aren't heavily scouted. One recently got picked up for u18 camp though
Footymom
Based on Impact's academy rosters, it doesn't look like they recruit outside of Quebec. If memory serves, I have only seen one out of province player which was Kai Morton. The rest are all Quebecois. It seems a rather narrow view tbh. That being said, I am surprised why there are so few Impact players on the roster. They did well last year at the U16 and U18 level in the USSDA; and they seem to be promoting quite a few to the senior team whereas many of the Whitecap and TFC kids disappear into the wordwork after appearing on the Canadian youth teams. Perhaps its down to the fact that Impact have a solid U21 side that keeps the development moving forward (rather than the players being overlooked at the younger age by Canada); whereas the Whitecap and TFC turn the kids lose after U18 unless they can get signed to the senior team. The US Pro sides may change that. Erhan Yilmaz, Jackson Picard, Yann Fillion, Zachary Sukunda, Raphael Garcia, Luca Piccioli, Kareem Sow, Novello Yoseke are all from Ottawa. Impact recruits heavily in Ottawa and play ex games with Ottawa fury on regular basis with 4 of the above coming from past fury teams.

Are we missing any vital players? Otherwise, qualifying seems pretty tough next year. A couple of strong whitecaps players are injured and have heard TFC had players in other events this week so perhaps may not have been able to send everyone requested. Montreal has a solid LB, CB and an improving striker that are probably on the radar. Also a former Fury striker at SSM in USSDA that ought to get someone's attention in coming year(s). There are two strong MF (Fulham and MK) and a striker (West Ham) playing in UK as well...like to see how they would fit in some day.
