Bertuzzi44
In order to keep it manageable, I restricted the list to our CURRENT crop of uncommitted Canadians . Not including Crisante because he is clearly Italian with a faint Canadian connection. Him playing for Canada would be a bonus...
Footscray
Probably Tesho or Junior Hoilett for me. Tesho has legit links to the US and I would not be mad either way. Hoilett is properly a Canadian in every way and should have already played for us, but he would still really add a new element down the wing. Vitoria is a douche and I'd rather he never plays for us, would help but not that much, Fernandes is old, that ship has has sailed and we don't need him anyway, personal opinion but Bustos, Ferreira and Lavery are not going to be that great, at least not good enough to select over proud Canadians and I think Aird seems to already be back in the fold or ready to come back. Blackdude
While you're putting Caolan Lavery, why not put that Bosnian goalkeeper on that list?

ray
I'm looking for some commitment to Canada. The majority of those listed have shown they're not too interested in helping Canada in the struggle for respectability when they can hop on board with another country. While it would be nice to have Hoillett's talent, is he going to go out of his way to show up for WCQs in Central America? From the list, Fraser Aird has at least shown up at a Canadian camp. We'll see whether that is a good indication of commitment. In the end, I picked Tesho. He's playing at a good level in a position where we have little depth. I'll cut him some slack on the commitment side (since he was raised in the States) for now. I hope we'll have a clear answer, one way or the other, at the November friendly. king1010
Junior isn't getting called up by England. Our program is in better shape than Jamaica's. If i were a betting man I'd say this WCQ cycle if he doesn't committ to us he won't be playing any international football until after the 2018 world cup. Not for us or Jamaica Maybe if we qualify for the 2016 Copa America he'll strongly consider playing for us? If we qualify for the Hex and 2016 Copa America and he doesn't play for us then he's a goner.

kingvikingstad
I think it has to be Junior. He's the most known entity playing at the highest level and capable of making the greatest different, right now.
Obinna
I picked Junior simply because of the type of player he is and what our needs are. I was tempted to pick Arid but I feel that he might actually pick us over Scotland in the end anyways. Really though, I am happy with not having any of these guys since choosing Canada is seemingly so difficult for them. They're quality would strengthen our pool but there is no big difference maker in that group anyways. Junior included.
Keegan
Lavery has switched permanently. The rest inlcuding Fernandes are still available to us. How so? He never played for us in an official youth match, only N.Ireland. Fernandes played for us at the youth level and for Portugal at the youth and senior level.. so how is he eligible but not Lavery? At this point Junior seems like a lost cause (and a moron). He says how it would be a dream to play international football... guess what buddy you probably only have 2 cycles left in your career so better get on that. I see no reason why he wouldn't be at the 2015 GC for us or Jamaica. Honestly it's kind of even pissing me off that he's not being a traitor.. he's just in no man's land. madmonte
I put Aird because he's the one that's talking about playing for Canada, and has the talent to do so. If you look at his tweet prior to the Milk Cup camp, it sounded like he genuinely wanted to come. (I can't remember why he couldn't, injury or club or what) Good luck to the u20 Canada team playing in the milk cup this week, gutted I couldn't make it !! And this one just before Canada played Jamaica Good luck to @CanadaSoccerEN tonight !! I have hopes this one actually chooses Canada, don't forget he attended a camp last year as well. Blackdude
How so? He has played for us in an official youth match. April 21, 2009, he played 27 minutes against Honduras in a 1-1 draw in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship. That is an official match.

He had to use his one-time switch to play for N. Ireland. Fernandes never played an official youth match for us (he was passed over for the 2003 U20's) so he didn't have to use his one-time switch to join Portugal and is not permanently cap-tied to them since he only played senior friendlies and UEFA U21 competition. Okay thank you, I just glanced at the ever reliable wikipedia and saw one cap in 2008 which wasn't a qualifying year. So then how is Fernandes still eligible didn't he play for Canada in U20 qualifiers? Seems Fraser Aird made a pretty dumb comment that has some coverage. Said that immigrants are the ones voting yes to Scotland issue and that they don't have a clue.. he's then been called out by people saying he himself is an immigrant. Dumb dumb dumb. A_Gagne
Just for shits... Fence Sitter FC: -----------------Fernandes--------------- ---Ferreira---Opare--Vitoria---Soscia-- --Aird---Cristente---Bustos---Hoilett-- --------Lavery---------Akindele---------
A_Gagne
As much as I'd like to say bugger off to most of these guys I think there are certainly a few players here who could anywhere from moderately to significantly help our cause. The fence sitter I would most like to see suit up for Canada would be Hoilett. Still theoretically has his peak years ahead of him, highest profile, need all the attacking threats we can get. I think the noteriety of getting Hoilett to commit would go a long way towards stemming the exodus of any Canadian with "options" that's decimated our top end talent pool over the last 15-20yrs. If I were Floro though, the guy on this list I would try to woo the most however, would be Akindele. We have other strikers in his age group that has show they can score, but none are in as good of a clubs situation as he is, and none can match his combination of athleticism, composure, work-rate, and maturity. I think he could be difference maker, perhaps not now, but over the next 2 WCQ cycles and next 3-4 GCs. Potential "low hanging fruit" on this list are Vitoria and Fernandes*, both are in somewhat of a rut in their respective careers and clearly aren't getting any love from Portugal. As such, showing up for a GC next summer could be there could be a potential mutually beneficial opportunity for both player and country. Both would get some added exposure and meaningful playing time, which couldn't hurt career-wise. Neither player is head and shoulders above what we currently have as options, but both would compete for starts and arguably be our best player at their respective positions. And seriously, last Tuesday we started a GK playing for Unattached FC, backed up by a 38yr old dude who rides the pine for his club and a kid who probably won't be ready for primetime for at least another 4 yrs. Again, as much as I'd love to say bugger off to most of these guys, I think it would create a lot of positive momentum if we could convince a few of them, particularly the higher profile ones like Hoilett and Vitoria to turn out for us. And IMO we've got a serious void of established players in their mid-twenties right now. We've got a good crop of early twenty somethings, but they mostly won't be in their prime until next WCQ, and if we want to have any shot at this next qualification cycle we need to fill in some serious gaps. * Not convinced Fernandes is actually eligible though... unless he never played an official match for Canada at the youth level, I think he would have had to use his one time switch to put on a Portugal jersey regardless of what matches he played in for them. Also, should state that all that being said, I have zero optimism that any of these guys will actually show up, other than Aird, and actually Bustos... who I don't think will ever make Chile or Italy, and hopefully isn't dumb enough to let himself get cap-tied to anyone else on spec, unless he's clearly good enough to be in the mix for their Sr. teams.. and lets face it... sorry kid, that's probably not going to happen. An Observer
The only good thing about Airds comment is that it likely doesn't endear him to the scots and they in fact have called him immigrant themselves which will push him even closer to playing for us. Bertuzzi44
Really surprised to see Vitoria, who plays on arguably the team with the highest pedigree (Benfica!) is getting no love! Also, as others have noted, Lavery is not eligible and should not have been included as an option. Whoops, sorry! I voted for Junior.
baulderdash77
Really surprised to see Vitoria, who plays on arguably the team with the highest pedigree (Benfica!) is getting no love! I voted for Junior. Vitoria doesn't even make the bench for most games for Benfica. He's on the team but just barely. I voted for Junior as well. Along with Atiba he is the best Canadian that we could have in our pool right now.
A_Gagne
Fernandes - Is he even still playing? Who the hell is Socsia? I thought Lavery was gone as he made his switch? Justin Soscia - Spezia Calcio (Italian Serie B (2) (U-20) From New Mother of All Canadians Abroad list. I know Lavery is gone... took a look at the list here and said "hey you could almost make a starting 11 out of this!" So filled in the wingback spots with a couple of others not included. Note the "Just for shits" into statement... as in meant to be funny... as in chill the you-know-what out buddy.
