Bertuzzi44
If you could only choose 1 (one) player among these similarly aged Canadian players, who do you take? (The player you choose will play for Canada the rest of their career, the rest will not.) Vote/discuss!
madmonte
Intriguing thread. I was really hard pressed on this one, but out of the options, I took Osorio. I hated to take a midfielder when for the last LONG time that has been our best position, but Osorio is a different kind of midfielder for us, that sees the pitch and can set up the striker, rather than the hard nosed tackler. He is the type of mid that our CMNT has been lacking and needs for a LONG time, so for me, this is a no brainer. But honestly, you could say the same of a couple of other of people on the list as well. But for me, since Osorio does so well at setting up on the through ball, that adds another level of vision. Too many CMNT games I'm frustrated watching the play forced out wide, and then watching them pump useless ball after useless ball into a box that is absolutely crowded with players and calling it "good strategy". It IS good strategy, but only when the defence doesn't expect it. When you do the same thing every play, I'm pretty sure they see what is coming. So a guy like Osorio adding a totally different element on the passing game than we are used to...yeah, he's my choice.
hodgkiss
Seeing our team lacks some real danger up front, I had to go with Cavalinni. From what I have seen of him he is a great talent and a real threat. I fell that there are other guys on this list that have more "worth" in the sense that I have seen them play at the CMNT and club level but that scoring touch is something we need very badly! Bully
Petrasso
Obinna
Petrasso is 3 years younger. Everyone in that list is 92 (Clarke is 93). I think if you want to do the same thing for Petrasso the other options should be guys like Aleman, Piette, Stanese, Arid, etc...
El Hombre
I'm worried that the myth of Lucas Cavallini will set everyone up for unrealistic expectations. Outside of highlights, most of us have just seen him in a couple games during Olympic qualifying.
Bully
I agree^. But a myth is better than nothing in Canadian soccer.

Outside of highlights, most of us have just seen him in a couple games during Olympic qualifying. I believe we watched him at the U20's as well. I have seen him play at least a handful of times and every game he has been a dominant force. He very well could be a very special player. Myth? I don't think so but can he play consistently at the highest level and still produce? TBD.
ray
^ Cavallini also played in the infamous 8-1 drubbing. He should have scored too, if I recall correctly. As for the poll, Madmonte makes a good case for Osario. Plus he's the one who's actually established with the MNT. Bird in the hand ...
shermanator
I picked Osorio for similar reasons to madmonte. In a year I might argue that one of Hamilton/Petrasso would top that list.
kingvikingstad
I was down to Cavallini/Osorio/Henry and selected Cavallini. Simply put, a dynamic weapon up top is something we've needed for far too long and as mentioned by another poster, everytime I have seen Cavallini I have come away impressed. Osorio is a very, very close second and I agree with everything madmonte said. Henry likely has the highest potential he can soar to, but is the riskiest of the three to reach it. Assuming all three reach their ceiling, this is a nice spine to have for the future.
thescottc
I picked Henry. Good teams are built on solid, experienced back lines. Hopefully he continues to improve and become an anchor of our MNT for many years to come.
Yohan
I picked Osorio. He's probably the most complete player we have, and with experience, he'll get better. Best central midfielder we'll have since Hutchinson.

tmcmurph
I picked Osorio. From what I've seen of him dribbling in traffic around and in the box he is one of the most important pieces we need. His development so far has been great and I'm looking forward to seeing more. PS. I'm greedy. I want them ALL
Bertuzzi44
Going a bit against the grain but I picked Teibert. I think he is a fantastic talent and has a great engine too. Also think as he develops he will become more of an offensive threat. Can be very very dynamic. Can play centrally or on the wings...
Keegan
That 92 generation is pretty big by our standards. Daniel Haber is a name that seems to fly under the radar for posters here, the talk is usually about MLS guys.

Blackdude
Very good and sage point. Also, if Cavallini didn't decline every camp invitation during the past two years, I would have maybe picked him. So Osorio, it is.

Obinna
Osorio for me. We seriously lack a central midfielder that can take the bull by the horns and make things happen in the final 3rd. Osorio seems to be our best hope for that, but I am also holding my breath waiting for Aleman to develop.
Footscray
For me it was between Osorio and Henry.... Osorio is better now and I think he contributes for a long time but Henry has an incredible ceiling. Physically, he can play in any league in the world and excel but will he ever take the next step mentally, reduce his lapses and move from inconsistent to reliable? Good on TFC for giving him playing time over the last few years but he needs to seize the opportunity soon.
