Ruffian
Too bad he is only getting noticed by managers like him at the age of 31.

A_Gagne
to bad the interview cuts out the second he says Hutchinson was the best player on the side... would have been nice to hear him elaborate.
tarnado1555362291
Maybe I'm a little less suprised by this performance because I have seen so much of Atiba for club, but happy that he is getting some recognition (did not hear much from our very own Sportsnet commentators). Very consistent player. I thought that his play during the first leg against Feyenoord was complete domination of the midfield. I did not see the first leg vs Arsenal but have downloaded it to watch later. I still think Hutch has one more really big club in his career. Looking forward to watching him lead Besiktas in the Europa League. edit: just realized Hutch was injured for the first leg ! Obinna
Yeah, he is by far my favourite player. Such a talented guy. I really like how everything goes through him at Besiktas. I think a DM pairing of him and Johnson would be the best, with Osorio playing in front of them.
tarnado1555362291
Besiktas has been drawn with Tottenham, FK Partizan and Asteras Tripolis.
BradMack
Besiktas vs Tottenham is probably a game Sportsnet will show on their main channels, and another big English club to watch Atiba play, great draw for us fans.
jonovision
Thinking back on it, probably the worst thing that happened to Atiba was getting a regular gig playing right back for PSV. At the time, he was in the rotation, but not a surefire starter, as a holding midfielder. When he played in midfield, he earned good reviews from the fans. They were less high on his play at RB, where he "kan niet echt voetballen", can not really "play football" in the way condescending Dutch fans want you to play. So he was an important player on the team, but spent 3 years not using his strengths. If he had remained in midfield, he probably would have won a full time job or looked for a new club much sooner. He still seems fit, so I see him as a regular CM for Canada for at least the next 2 years. Perhaps we can slide him into RB in his later years as a sort of semi-retirement. I thought it was the opposite? Didn't they think he was competent as a midfielder, though he couldn't really 'play', but was much more useful as a RB. Or have I just mixed that up in my head? That was the tone of the criticism he got, no matter where he played, but the fans rated him more highly as a midfielder than a RB. He was "more useful" at right back only because they didn't have anybody good who was a natural RB.

Michael Crampton
It's interesting, and Wenger's comments are probably not wrong, but I really didn't think that Hutchinson had a very good game! He hit a few nice balls in the second half, but a lot of his passing was pretty slack. Not mishit per se, but regularly under hit, so that the space wasn't available by the time it got to his teammates. On the other hand, he was always offering -- much more than any of his teammates -- and when not, moving off the ball to open space. You could see his constant frustration that no one else was moving to the space he opened by vacating the middle when fullbacks were in possession. By the end, when Besiktas were really going for it looking for the goal and he had license to move out of a holding role, he was doing the most running to create overloads down the flanks. If anything though, it looked like the biggest problem was his teammates being out of sync with how he wanted to play. Hutch was almost their only player happy to keep the ball moving. You could see when he wanted to raise the tempo, but the wide midfielders wouldn't return the ball to him until they were out of options. What's strange is that Besiktas generally earned a lot of credit for their play, yet did so without anyone really having a standout game! Again, Wenger's probably not wrong, as the only other player I could suggest for MOTM on their part was their left back. Thus, it doesn't surprise me, as what Wenger's comment really points to is that, of all the Besiktas players, Hutchinson was the one who I could see fitting into the Arsenal team and playing a useful role because he was the only Besiktas player looking to play the style that Wenger's teams play. Still, full credit to Atiba, and hopefully he can play a role in Besiktas going deep in the Europa League.
