ted
Wow, that was...dirty. I feel like I just witnessed something not illegal in Canada but criminal in most of the US. I know the NPSL works with the NASL but is this Peterson guy really some kind of minor-league messiah? That said, I hope he is good at his job because I like the direction the NASL is going. msilverstein47
NASL COMMISSIONER TO SPEAK AT NPSL COMBINE TOURNAMENT The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce that North American Soccer League (NASL) Commissioner Bill Peterson will be a guest speaker at the NPSL Combine Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. "The NPSL is a very important part of the soccer landscape in the U.S.," Peterson said. "The league continues to grow, and we're seeing improved talent on the field. I'm looking forward to being there this weekend." Peterson was named Commissioner of the NASL on November 27, 2012. No stranger to North American soccer having worked closely with MLS teams when he was the Senior Vice President of AEG Sports and Managing Director of the Home Depot Center from 2000 to 2006, Peterson helped oversee the management of numerous MLS teams and the development of soccer-specific stadiums across the country. Most recently Peterson provided advisory and event services to a variety of clients in Canada and the United States through his own firm Solve4. Peterson is the Chairman of the USA Cycling Board of Directors and a member of the USPRO Cycling Board of Trustees and served briefly as COO of the UFL. He was the Executive Vice President of Centerplate, the North American market leader for managing food and beverage, retail, restaurant, and events in sports facilities, convention centers, and entertainment complexes. He spent six years working with a variety of teams, facilities and sporting events while Senior Vice President at AEG in Los Angeles. Peterson spent almost a decade working for the National Football League where he became the President of NFL Europe having been the General Manager of the league’s Amsterdam Admirals. English Premier League (EPL) coach Chris Ramsey, who currently works for Queens Park Rangers FC, was already announced as a guest speaker earlier this week. -Hammer-
Frankly is he wants the NASL to reach 18-20 teams, I think the better option is to run two parallel leagues, hopefully getting up to around 15 a piece. One in the US, and one in Canada with a couple nearby Northern US teams in the North "Conference". Make a North vs South league with as many periodic incursions south and north that the CSA/USSF will allow. Then have the top two teams play in a single championship. ted
That is a very romantic idea but North-South, while pleasing to the Canadian ego, is an unworkable business model. East-West makes much more sense from a travel perspective. It is a lot cheaper trip from BC to California than BC to Ontario or Quebec.

Sadly, unless the USSF changes their tune, East West is nearly as unlikely for Canada to get enough teams started up.
