So yeah, if draws count as action for Canadians abroad....well Besiktas and Atiba just drew Arsenal in the playoff round of the Champions League.  Ouch, tough draw!  At the same time, for me, tough draw for Arsenal as well.

On the bright side, this means the game may very well be televised, so keep your eyes out for it.

Yeah, two games against a squad like Arsenal, with group stage on the line, those are games we want out NT players involved in. Damn though, that is the toughest draw they could have gotten. Would have even preferred Napoli. Can't wait to watch though, when will these fixtures take place?

As partial as I am towards the Gunners, I will be dreaming of a Demba Ba strike from a Hutchinson feed to see them advance.

Germany

1st half

VfR Aalen 1 : 0 St. Pauli

Hainault starts in central defence

http://gofirstrow.eu/watch/273986/2/watch-vfr-aalen-1921-vs-fc-st.-pauli.html

Hainault is showing himself as the early choice at CB, and if he keeps that role will probably be cementing himself a CB position for the CMNT.  Depressing how easy it could potentially be to cement a CB job, when I think really hard about what I just typed, but Hainault is a good player.

Besiktas at home August 19th, Arsenal at home August 26th.  So a week and a half from now.  Yes, tough draw.  For comparison's sake, those watching last year remember that Arsenal beat Fenerbahce by 5-0 over both legs in the playoff round (same stage).  I don't think that result really speaks to the talent level of Turkish Football, which can definitely be competitive, even with teams like Arsenal.   Don't forget that Galatasary knocked out Juventus last year.

But on the whole, my money is certainly on Arsenal, obviously.

Remember though, as commented on in a different thread, even if Besiktas lose, they still get to move on the Europa group stage.

I agree. Watching this game I had the same thought that he would start. I think he and Henry would be the starting CBs if a game was played tomorrow.

Edgar and Jakovic might have something to say about this, but it's good to see the competition coming through with players getting actual minutes at club level. I am hoping Dejan offers enough at RB for us to also slide him over there for the MNT. The best thing about Hainault, IMO, is that he has a lot of experience playing either fullback position from his MLS days, versality that would might give him a leg up over the others.

Since Jakovic has moved to Japan, we've heard nothing from him in terms of Canadian camps, have we?  I'm certainly not questioning the quality of the Japanese football system, I just question whether he remains on FLORO'S radar, or plans for the future.  Time will tell.  Jakovic is certainly high enough quality to at least see camp invites, so either he isn't getting them, or is declining them?  What's the word on the street here?

Well Floro has coached in the J league so he knows what that league has to offer in terms of quality. He will also be aware of the fact it's literally half way around the world. In the end though I expect him to be a part when the important games come. Looking forward to seeing him at RB.

We've had like what, 2 camps in the last 10 months?

Ricketts scored 2 goals for Hapoel Haifa in a friendly 3-0 win against Maccabi Petah on Friday.

Which reminds me, I'm more confused when reading translations, because Hebrew is read from right to left and that the score didn't switch, so I read that Ricketts scored 2 goals in a 3-0 loss according to the title. Then the article made it look like they've won 3-0.
