Philippines Coach Thomas Dooley said in  a press Conference in Vietnam yesterday that Philippines national team will play Canada and US Olympic NT away in friendlies to prepare for ASEAN Championship in November.

Possible on  a FIFA match day in October ?

Did they even participate in the last round of WCQ?  We're really going for a complete set of embarassing defeats to countries who didn't/couldn't, starting with Martinique to Mauritania

lost to Kuwait in 2nd round of AFC WCQ

Huge Filipino population in many parts of the country, but Vancouver springs to mind for me. Haven't had a MNT match out here for a while, so I am going to trot out the old Frank Yallop B camp (NOT quite a poutine C camp) idea again again and suggest they play up at Swangard for the day. Am I being too nostalgic? You could even have it double as a fundraiser for Tacloban/Red Cross.

I certainly wouldn't complain about that. You'd think that anywhere on the West Coast would be easy for them to get to. For us, we could call a domestic squad with a lot of Caps' youngsters. The only downside on such an idea is that I suspect they will set up camp at one location and have the USA Olympic team and CMNT (or our U-23's?) visit them. I doubt that location will be in BC. It will most likely be in California. However, if they chose Washington state I think a short day trip to Swangard wouldn't be out of the question.

What does Vancouver having a large Filipino population have to do with scheduling a game location? I think we should try to fill stadiums with Canadian supporters rather than Filipino supporters

Why does the US play Mexico in home friendlies in Southern US? Because they can make more money.

And it's not like they would go in a place where Canadian fans would be outnumbered.

I think Toronto has the largest filipino community in Canada. My wife's parents are from the Philippines so I use to make it out to a lot of community events. They all really love Canada and would sing our national anthem along with the filipino one before events.

I streamed a few of their previous wcq. They have some decent players but the overall quality isn't high.

Mississauga supposedly has a large Filipino population (at least according to my Filipino friends).

Maybe this Philippines match isn't for our full MNT, as I've heard there is friendly in the works for one of our youth teams (not sure if it's u20/u23)?

Winnipeg has the second largest Filipino population in Canada, according to census data, and the largest by percentage (8.7%), says Wikipedia. On the block where I live, it's probably closer to 40%.

Bring it on!

I wouldn't be surprised, though, if this friendly ended up being played at some training facility in the southern U.S., as is too often the case.

I work with a guy who was an U16 Phillipnes player. At least that's what he says, Lol.

And despite his being a Liverpool fan, I am sure that we'll be watching this one.

And yeah, Tagalog is now the second most commonly spoken language in the Peg, after English.

Pumunta Canada!!
