New MLSers for Canada-Jamaica

One American

Recommended Posts

Among the non-capped and lightly capped MLSers, who do you want to see suit up for Canada-Jamaica? I would guess Tesho Akindele has the top spot. Ethan Finlay may be another one. Both guys having breakout years in MLS. Both guys with outstanding sets of wheels. With Harrison Shipp slowing down this month, Tesho is starting to get ROY mentions on certain other boards. Finlay has 5 goals and 3 assists for Columbus. He's apparently No. 2 behind Dempsey in goals + assists per 90 minutes. Both of these guys could draw USA attention. But so far, among fans, it's relatively light compared to others. That doesn't mean it's passing JK's notice, however.

Who else?

I want to see Tissot finally get a call. He hasn't been called for Canada at any level if I recall correctly. Has 1 goal, 1 assist, and 3 starts over 6 games. That is more field time than Morgan and Adekube this season, plus he's proven himself to be versatile.

If Jackson-Hamel just made his MLS debut, and if he can keep getting 15-20 minutes here and there late in games, I don't see why we wouldn't bring him in. Ditto for Gagnon-Lapare. Hopefully both see CCL time in advance of our friendly (shouldn't games be starting soon?).

Kofi Opare: Haven't been following his eligibility thread, but if we could bring him in for a look that'd be great. Obviously he hasn't played this season yet, but last year made a splash with the Galaxy and the more depth (at all positions), the better.

Of course, if you're going to call Opare, Ouimette obviously needs to come first. He's played 9 games this season (8 starts). So, based on playing time alone I think he's deserving. Although he hasn't played much lately, CCL might present more opportunities.

Finally, not a young guy but certainly so to MLS, Issey! Looking forward to getting him back in the squad. We can use his creativity.

If we are going with a 100% domestic squad...

Carducci

Roberts

Henry

Ouimette

Opare (if eligible)

Adekube

Tissot

Beckie (we need a RB/has gotten good NASL minutes)

Teibert

Osorio

Bekker

Gagnon-Lapare

Issey

Johnson

Finlay (if eligible/interested)

Boaki (If purely domestic - why not?)

DeRosario (for experience)

Porter (hasn't been getting games but we are thin up front)

Akendele

Jackson-Hamel

Larin-hasn't played a pro minute but tempted to throw him in there.

Obinna, I'm waiting for Lord Bob to write about Edson Edward.

Anyways, since I don't even know who will be there. I don't expect Johnson to be there, because being there for your wife when she is labouring is important. We'll have a different vibe to the previous groups called under Floro. It will look less experimental, more like the team Floro will bring to the Gold Cup.

I guess Johnson got his priorities straight haha

Yeah of course that is a glimpse into what a camp poutine roster should look like, since it was based on a 100% domestic line up. Clearly, we are not yet deep enough on this side of the Atlantic to be competitive with such a roster. Question is, what European guys are going to get released for this one?

Perhaps it largely depends on club schedule, but the basic rule of thumb is that we can likely rule out guys that have just completed moves. For them it is critical to find their feet in a new environment.

So based on that premise...

Lars (likely - lost his spot = less resistance to release)

Stama (borderline - If he's still the number 1 his club likely don't want to lose him, they are still in title race)

Straith (likely - hasn't he just moved to unattached FC? Available.)

Hainault (borderline - only started getting consistent minutes towards end of last campaign)

DeJong (probable - been at Augsburg for long time/no longer first choice = less resistance to release)

deGuzman (likely - established now at Xanthi)

Hutchinson (possible - club might resist if Beskitas has fixture congestion with CL or cup matches)

Pacheco (probable - can't see Santa Clara making a fuss)

REB (probable - he's not important enough for them to complain i'd imagine)

So, taking an optimistic approach and saying these guys all get called in, here is my roster prediction (including young MLSers I think will realistically get called in - ie. no Finlay or Opare).

Lars

Stama

Roberts or Carducci (toss up here)

Henry

Ouimette

Tissot

De Jong

Hainualt

Adekube or Morgan (I can see Morgan getting called since he's already in Toronto)

Straith

Teibert

Osorio

Issey

Hutchinson

deGuzman

Pacheco

Gagnon-Lapare

Bekker

DeRosario

Akendele

Jackson-Hamel

REB

-------------------Lars---------------------

Ouimette---Henry---Hainault---deJong

------------------------------------------------

-----------------deGuzman-----------------

Teibert------------------------------Osorio

-----------------Hutchinson------------------

-----------REB------------Akendele---------

That starting XI is what I want to see and not necessarily what will happen btw...

What you guys think?

I'm going to go way off script but what about Molham Babouli. 13 goals in League One Ontario

http://www.league1ontario.com/article/player-profile-tfcas-molham-babouli

Now I know I'll take some shots for this but it would be great for CSA to reward this young man with a call-up and show that they look towards this league as a source for their player pool.  He is very similar to a Wiedeman.

My thoughts on him

- Makes excellent runs behind defenders

- Great engine and work ethic

- Defends well for a foward

- A bit impatient in attacking defenders when he shouldn't go 1v1

- Not a great 1v1 dribbler

- Great finisher.  Shocked at some of the shots he made

- Not a great crosser

- Unfortunately he is solely a forward and not flexible enough to be a winger

And more to the point....why the hell not.

Yes! And I'd love to see Milan get the start and Roberto play the second half.

You do realize he's 21 years old, right? We have younger forwards who have accomplished more than he has who are more deserving.

Of course.  But most of those players are European based, suspiciously Canadian or in University.

None of that is an issue when the game is on a FIFA date. Let Babouli prove himself at the pro level, then the U23 (if he even gets called) first and then we call him to the MNT.

Why is no one putting Cavallini in their call ups?  We need to see him

-----------------Akindele--------------------

Cavallini---------------------------Teibert

-------------Osorio---Hutchsinon----------

-------------------Edgar------------------

De Jong------Henry-----Hainault--Jakovic

-------------------Borjan--------------------

That's a lineup that I think we would all like to see.

I am not sure Ethan Finlay has ever mentioned or been involved with the Canadian team.

He was born in the US and grew up in the US.

Apparently his father is Canadian, he's been mentioned on these boards before and should be on the CSA's radar.
