Soccerpro
Low point of the season today in a 1-0 loss to Indy. Last year you could count on a 1-1 draw every game, this year, your odds are the same for winning the lottery or seeing the eddies score in an nasl game. Colin Miller's tactical and player decisions have been baffling. If someone hires him after he gets fired/resigns from the eddies at the end of this season, I have the utmost sympathy for you. Not only do fans despise him, you really get the feeling that players don't like him either.
Obinna
Oh, the tactical genius of Colin Miller. What in particular is wrong with this team right now? Is there one glaring issue or is it just an all around hot mess?
madmonte
If I was to point out one glaring issue it's that they don't play enough ground passes from the back, and keep cool in possession. Lots of hoofball, lots of rushed play. Must be VERY frustrating for the strikers to be expected to chase down useless ball after useless ball. That MAY be a slightly old analyses though. To be fair I haven't been able to watch as much of their games this season, for obvious reasons. The games will be back on regular TV soon I understand though? Yawassanay
The British kick and run style is out of touch with the game...CM is showing he is limited in strategy, systems and working with groups....time for change always starts with the coach so the Fath's should consider investing in a play/coach with more experience than the dutch men they have previously hired and/or looking to sign 2-3 veterans to build from...this club is too young and experienced to compete regardless of a questionable coach

Dub Narcotic
Ha ha, man this has not been a good year for Canadian coaches or TD's. De Santis, Clarke, Yallop and Watson have all been flops and most will be fired.

De Santis, Clarke, Yallop and Watson have all been flops and most will be fired. Yet, as ynwa pointed out to me the other day, Canadian Alen Marcina is doing quite well in his first proper season with San Antonio. Not many other bright spots, though. I hope this is the end of the road for Miller, too.

To be fair I haven't been able to watch as much of their games this season, for obvious reasons. The games will be back on regular TV soon I understand though? Did you watch the game at all? You did notice the huge number of chances FCE squandered in the first half, no? They actually played a good game, only to loose in the dying seconds. The hardest thing in soccer or any teamsport for that matter is turning a loosing side into winning. Which has more to do with metallity than anything else. If anything, they lack scoring power. The British kick and run style is out of touch with the game...CM is showing he is limited in strategy, systems and working with groups....time for change always starts with the coach so the Fath's should consider investing in a play/coach with more experience than the dutch men they have previously hired and/or looking to sign 2-3 veterans to build from...this club is too young and experienced to compete regardless of a questionable coach More experience than the "Dutch" coaches Fath hired? First of all Dwight Lodeweges is Canadian and secondly he is a solid coach. They reached the play-offs that year, remember? He promoted to the Eredivisie with tiny FC Zwolle two seasons ago and earned a respectable 11th place last season. That's why FC Heerenveen picked him up. Harry Sinkgraven was an unexperienced coach yes, like is Miller. I'm also not a big fan of Miller, but the personal attacks sometimes annoy me. It's not like he's at ManU or something, he manages a small team in a small league and this season, even the biggest haters must agree, things aren't going his way. Yes he's ultimately responsible, but give him the budget teams like San Antonio, the Cosmos or Minnesota and then you can make an honest comparison. Btw I believe Ben Olsen was the headcoach of DC last year, right? They got a total of 16 points that season. So does he suck? Cause this year, they look very solid under the same coach. It's not always black or white you know.
youllneverwalkalone
But Ben Olson got results the year prior. Miller has never gotten results at any level.
shamrock
Well, touche. And even I think Millers Reign of Incompetence will be over in a short time (I guess they give him the rest of the season). Btw I made a mistake it wasn't Zwolle but even tinier Cambuur Leeuwarden. Looking at coaches, I really believe Lodeweges is the best Canada has at this point. Might be a consideration for the MNT after Floro.
Soccerpro
Mller's biggest issue is that it takes him months to make a tactical or personnel change. He's just too stubborn. For instance, the eddies played great the last two games, after finally getting rid of Neil Hlavaty as a CM. It also took him until that time to realize slow Franke Jonke isn't the answer up front. He eventually seemed to have figured the major issues out, but it took until the end of July. That's hard to understand.
foreverthursday
The last two years have been very difficult for FC Edmonton supporters. We have seen growth online, and shrinkage in the stands. I am tired of the same excuses from Miller and the front office. I am just tired of watching mistake after mistake after mistake. We can see them clear as day, but the stubbornness from the coach staff is unbelievable.

CDNFootballer
The Eddies seem to have turned a corner and can score goals after all - 8 in the last 4 games. The club is playing very well in those last 4 games and their change in offensive style seems to be working well, especially Laing on the wing, addition of Raudules, and James seems to have infinite energy.Hope more fans turn out on Sunday. shermanator
Laing is not consistently MLS quality. He was terrible for the majority of the spring season, and has only turned up his form once being moved up to the wing.
shamrock
It seems Miller has turned the squad into a winning team by now. They are well within reach of the playoffs. I think he deserves some credit for it, considering all the slack he got (and is still getting).
shermanator
Miller deserves credit for the club's good run of form lately. 4 points back of 4th with 10 games left is not impossible, although not easy either. The signing of Raudales and transfer of Navarro were absolutely tremendous as those 2 have had a much greater impact on the team than anticipated. Moving Laing up to the wing and moving Moses to LB has proven to be a catalyst for offense as well. It also appears he's finally clued into the fact that Hlavaty is not the answer in midfield after 1.5 years of thinking that. If Miller gets this team in the playoffs, he will be back next year. If he gets them close, I think he earns another Spring season. If they drop off, he's gone.

jedinathan
I agree, although if FC Edmonton squeak in the fourth spot, but get pounded immediately, then I will have very conflicted feeling about him keeping his job. Like in 2011? Assuming that FCE gets the 4th spot (and damn it feels good to be talking about that at this point in the season... first time in a LOOOOOOONG time that we've been this competative), we'd play Minnesota. A few weeks back, things went pretty darn well for FCE against Minnesota. I watched the game, and really felt that if Edmonton had a few freasher legs on the pitch, they could have kept up that strong pressure that has helped them this fall. Things just feel apart in that game when they got tired (3 game in 6 days can't be easy, especially when going from Edmonton, to New York to Minnesota). Have to say that the pieces finally seemed to have fallen in place for FCE. It was odd going to the game yesterday and expecting a strong showing, rather than hoping that the players would get lucky. Speaking of 2011, its funny how the past haunts us supporters. Some of us were wincing every time a pass went back to Parker (thanks Baart). OnkelDal
Was really starting to lose hope with Miller cause of the poor results. Happy that was proved wrong. The new summer additions has really paid off. Sometimes it takes a bit of patients besides sacking a manager year after year. Making he playoffs may be a long shot, but I know our hopes will be much higher for next season if we put up a good fight till the end for that spot. jedinathan
Quick note about FCE: The club has been tweeting that there are less than 100 tickets left for the game on Sunday. My guess is that there were plenty of tickets provided to schools (I believe there is a major sponsorship for schools and low income families that just started, more on FCE's homepage). Pretty cool, considering that the weather should be nicer and its a huge 6-point game, with massive implications for the playoffs.
