-Hammer-
I'm not really sure what the opinion is going to be on this post, I for one am not really a fan our national team logo. Specifically, this logo. I think the ball is too large, I think there's not enough of a maple leaf, and the fact it's often on the kit as a single color irks me a bit and comes across as too simplistic. Now I'm not sure what everyone else's opinion is, and that's part of the reason for this thread, to promote some discussion on the subject. So, the other day I was watching Sportscentre and discovered on the sleeve of one of our woman golfers, the logo for golf Canada, which I had never seen before, and it seems to half stark similarities to many other Canadian sport association logos. Specifically, the logos for our hockey and rugby teams. I personally feel all these logos look good, it's a simple design, it adds more black into the color of the kit and it seems pretty standard across Canadian sport. I think one similar to hockey Canada with a soccer ball instead of a puck might look good, so what are your thoughts on the logo? Should it be changed? Any ideas if it did change what you would you like it to look like? I'm sure there are some who would like it turned into a Shield like many other countries. Your thoughts? BuzzAndSting
I like Maple Ball, always have. I would not be in favour of changing it. It's unique in the sense that it's a little more modern than most FAs and it's unique compared to the others mentioned.

In comparison to those logo's I don't think ours is a whole lot worse. I have actually grown to like it. I like the simplicity but at the same time I find it to be kind of uninspiring. However, perhaps that is because our program is uninspiring which influences my perception. It would be nice to see some kind of tweek though, but I am not a fan of FA's completely rebranding their logo. Logo's come with a lot of history so I always lean towards slight alterations. baulderdash77
I don't dislike the maple-ball logo but It's not really super attractive either. To be honest I really like the other Canadian sports logo's better. The half red, half black maple leaf with a sports figure is something that I recognize easier because other sports do it. I think it's sharper and resonates more strongly than maple-ball.
LSM
I say we keep the logo as is, but just go with a big maple leaf on the actual shirts. (Like on the centennial kit.) Especially if, like -Hammer- said, they're going to do the mono-colour badge.
ted
My apologies if this is a rehash of an existing thread, I just felt some discussion on the subject would be a healthy thing. Sure, why not. This exact same thread has been re-hashed every other year on three or four different versions of the Voyageurs forum going all the way back to the Network 54 version before the turn of the century. As I have said every time for the last 15-20 years: the current logo is distinct, simple and looks better than most. Every time someone proposes a "new" version we get a raft of shield shapes that look like bad tourist buttons or t-shirt designs. Show me a better design and I'll be happy to support it but suggesting that the CSA waste time and money to design a new one is where I start to wonder about priorities. smiddy
Soccer ball. Check. Maple Leaf. Check. CANADA. Check. Time for the team and organization to make it popular.
ray
Hate the black in the hockey, rugby, golf and other Canadian sports federation logos. Is it mandated by Sports Canada or something? I say we keep the logo as is, but just go with a big maple leaf on the actual shirts. (Like on the centennial kit.) Especially if, like -Hammer- said, they're going to do the mono-colour badge. I like the centenial kit idea but I'm sure the marketing folks would be screaming, "How will anyone know it's a soccer shirt?".
Sébastien
I see some people with clothes that have the Hockey Canada logo. However, even though they're similar, this is the first time I have ever seen the Rugby Canada or Golf Canada logos (even if I watched a few Canada games at the last Rugby World Cup). My point being, similarly to smiddy, I don't think you make the team popular through the logo. It's the other way around: you make the logo popular through the team. Califax
We need a shield. this makes us look like the country was founded in 1982 rather than 1867. But yeah, none of the other canada sports logos are better.
ThatDaveCh
Hate to bring up a thread that sort of died on its own, but if OP wants a real word example of an FA changing its emblem recently, look no further than Poland. The Polish FA introduced the new emblem prior to their hosting of EURO 2012. Soccer ball. Check. Maple Leaf Eagle. Check. CANADA POLAND. Check. Time for the team and organization to make it popular. This happened exactly. They stuck to the elements that worked, and the emblem got a nice shade of lipstick put on it. It's clean and modern. Love it. Can Canada produce something similar? It'd be nice, but while maple leaf ball is a little outdated (and looks a little Disney if you ask me), it's got the elements that it needs. Hate the black in the hockey, rugby, golf and other Canadian sports federation logos. I agree with this, not a fan of the black. ATM, it's a logo that covers its bases, and is quite clean. 9/10 would keep.

Sam
It's corny and obnoxiously obvious. Perfect for Canadian soccer IMO. But seriously it's kinda lame, but it's ours and I like it the way it is.

Show me a better design and I'll be happy to support it but suggesting that the CSA waste time and money to design a new one is where I start to wonder about priorities. This exactly. It is everything a logo should be - distinct, obvious, easy to duplicate. Its provenance is very reflective of Canada and its soccer history - the guy who said it looks like 1982 is bang on. It should. We're not England, Argentina, Brazil or Italy. No one who isn't in the know wouldn't have a clue what half the badges/logos/crests of national teams stood for. 90 percent of our population falls into that "not in the know" category. Although I do prefer the old Canada track and field font. Super retro. People love that font.

narduch
Put me down in the "who gives a shit about a logo" camp. Shouldn't we be talking about yesterdays game instead? Or at the very least why the Whitecaps hate Canada? I also don't mind the logo. Not sure what you can really do to it. The best logos are the most simple ones. I wouldn't be in favour of a coat of arms type logo.
