Feyenoord is organizing a few training camps next month in Scarborough (7-7 until 7-11) and Oakville (7-14 until 7-18) for young players to prove themselves. The best players from this event will participate in a free Grand final training camp that will be held in the Hanger at Downsview. This will be a 3 day camp from July 21st until July 23rd.

The Feyenoord Academy director Damien Hertog from Holland will attend the Grand finale camp. Feyenoord will select one or more players who will go on an all expenses paid trip to Rotterdam in Holland for a trial/Feyenoord experience. The players will attend the academy and will play games with the Feyenoord youth. The selected player or players will attend an Eredivisie match of Feyenoord's first team in the Famous stadium De Kuip. Feyenoord will welcome these players and present the two selected players in front of 50,000 Feyenoord supporters in the Kuip as winners of the Feyenoord camps Canada 2014. Dates will be agreed to with the club and the families of the players.

Jonathan de Guzman is the ambassador of Feyenoord Camps Canada.

Help them find the next JDG or Jacob Lensky.

These camps are often bullshit. Just a way for European teams to take money from gullible parents. There is a lot of money being thrown at youth soccer in North America. These Euro clubs want a piece of the action.

I wish a mod would move this thread to a more appropriate sub-forum or delete it. Its too bad with the new forum you can't report garbage like this.

Awesome, not only spam but spam for jdg2 and the dutch, because we're all feeling real warm and fuzzy for them right now.

Maybe if we're lucky we can be their new Surinam, they can take the better young players in Canada, improve their own club teams and then convince some more of them they are more dutch than Canadian.

#%€# off back to the Netherlands and take JDG2 with you. Makes me shake my head that he is living in Toronto when I see him faking Dutch patriotism on tv, singing their anthem before games.

You know that the Dutch only got their hands on Suriname after the English seized New Amsterdam? In hindsite it doesn't look like a great deal, considering New Amsterdam became New York City soon after and Suriname became, well Surinam.

I don't think anybody has persuaded De Guzman to become Dutch. It's beneficial for his pro-career (being able to play in every EU-counry), he's lived longer in the Netherlands than in Canada and his chances to ever play at a World Cup for Canada are practically non-existant. It's a no-brainer really.

As for the Dutch, if AS Roma's Kevin Strootman hadn't been injured, De Guzman wouldn't even have been called up. I don't think many fans even know he was born in Canada. It's a non-topic in the Netherlands.

And the Dutch aren't as nationalistic as the Canadians for example. But they are obliged to sing the national anthem by Louis van Gaal. Check the line-ups in South-Africa and you'll notice nobody sings along (maybe Mark van Bommel). I dont think it's posing by JDG at all.

And finally, for what it's worth, he didn't play well the first two games and has probably played his last minutes in Brazil. He's not that good really.

The winner of the camp is 10 year old  Luca Accettola. He plays for the Vaughan Soccer Club. This little kid also won at the FC Barcelona camp a while ago so he will now have his 2nd trial in Europe.

A canadian coach will also be coming to Rotterdam to experience the setup of the academy. Ilya Orlov who played for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Team in China in 2011 will be coming over. Here is a pic of him with former Celtic player Didier Agathe at the UEFA B Trainers course. Ilya was also one of the coaches at the Feyenoord camp in Canada a few weeks ago.

A little update on the camp. Luca Accettola is currently in Rotterdam with Feyenoord and Feyenoord have invited a 2nd player from the camp in July and his name is Nakye Duncan from Atletico Toronto Youth Soccer Academy. Both can be seen here with Giovanni van Bronckhorst who is currently Assistant Manager.

Except did any of us see Patina play?  I think it was all just a big hype game.

At least here we have video of a natural talent for his age.

I seem to remember there being similar videos for Patina. It is great and very necessary for us to have very young players getting the highest level of training possible. At some point it will produce some great players so it is a positive. On the other hand the majority of such young players never have a professional career so I don't think it is worthwhile to get overly excited about these individuals until they start achieving things at an older age. Nothing wrong with following them, posting updates or encouraging them though.

Very true but it shows that players can develop these skills locally before moving on which is a huge positive.  Of our current MNT I would be surprised if any of our players had that skill at age 9-10 (even DeRo or Hutch), hell Ricketts didn't even play until he was 14(!).  I think Rob Friend also didn't play until his teens.. Josh Wagenaar wasn't a keeper until he was 14 IIRC.

Hume was a prodigy. Unfortunately, he went to tranmere and learned kick and chase football that killed his development.

Yes he had some serious skills and looked like a very promising player when he was younger. But those skills were never developed and he became a hardworking enthusiastic guy who ran a lot but lacked technical ability. As much as I love the guy's attitude and effort it is really disappointing to see that he never fulfilled the early promise to be the technically skilled striker we have needed for so long.

The Feyenoord website have posted a review of their trial period.

Two Canadian boys have been training at Feyenoord Academy this past week. Luca Accettola (10) and Nakye Duncan (11) were the most eye-catching players at the summer’s Feyenoord Camps in Toronto, Canada. That earned them the opportunity to show what they could do in Rotterdam.

It turned out to be a wonderful week for Nakye Duncan and Luca Accettola, who travelled to the Netherlands with their parents and other family members. They trained with their peers from Rotterdam and even made an appearance in a practice match. And they did it with great enthusiasm.

The Canadians also attended Feyenoord’s home matches against Standard Liege in the Europa League and FC Groningen, visited the Feyenoord Museum and watched a first-team training session, taking the opportunity to have their photo taken with their new heroes.

‘This was a great chance for Nakye and Luca to experience European football culture. They earned that chance, because they were head and shoulders above the rest in Toronto. The boys made an excellent impression here, too,’ said Gerard Rutjes, coordinator of the Feyenoord football school.

Feyenoord has been active in Canada since the summer, when sports camps were held in Toronto over a three-week period. At the end of October youth coaches from Feyenoord will run clinics at Erin Mills FC in Mississauga, in the western part of the Greater Toronto Area. The club expects to return to North America to run more summer camps in 2015.

Accettola has completed his second trial at Feyenoord a couple of weeks ago. Staff are very impressed with him and will keep inviting him on a regular basis to check his progress.

His club Vaughan Soccer Club have also build closer relationships with Feyenoord and the Vaughan Azzurri U16 have been training in Rotterdam at the Feyenoord academy 3 weeks ago.

Monday 23-03-15 16:20 FIRST VAUGHAN AZZURRI SOCCER CLUB TRIP TO ROTTERDAM

Soccer is on the rise in Canada and Toronto club Vaughan Azzurri Soccer Club is likely to be on the forefront of development as their U16 travelled to the Netherlands to get a first hand experience of how football is lived in Europe. The players had a massive experience when they visited the Feyenoord stadium for the big match between Feyenoord and rival PSV.

Vaughan Azzurri U16 spent a full week in the Netherlands in which they combined a full Dutch football experience with sightseeing. The team enjoyed six sessions with Feyenoord Academy international development coach Melvin Boel and played two friendlies against Dutch counterparts. While the U16’s struggled in their first matchup with Feyenoord Academy partner Spijkenisse, they showed great resilience a day later when they accomplished a hard fought goalless draw against the Dutch Amateur XI. It was good cause for celebrations on the bus back to their four star hotel near central Rotterdam.

Melvin Boel, Feyenoord’s international development coach, was very happy with the progress the Vaughan boys showed. ‘The boys really showed their eagerness to improve during all the practice sessions. I am certain they will come away from this trip with a whole new sense of how to get results as a team rather than 11 individuals.' Andrew Ornoch, coach of Vaughan U16’s was equally satisfied with the Feyenoord experience. ‘The boys had a wonderful experience at Feyenoord!’
