Interesting to see how many kids are coming out of Toronto but not the TFC Academy.

@lazlo - I wouldnt look at this as a fault of the TFCA, rather a encouraging sign of the youth club development in the GTA.  These clubs (and more) from the GTA arent your father's rep team...paid quality coaching staff with an overall better development environment than we've ever had.

I dont follow the u16 youth any more than reading these threads but anyone have info on Matthew (Benfica) or Liam (Fulham)

Completely disagree. You can't tell me that in the last 5 years youth club development for teenagers has gone from sub-par (Sigma aside) to being seen as equal to an elite academy that should be employing UEFA "A" license coaches throughout (like the Whitecaps). If TFC Academy were doing their job every kid in the GTA would be flocking there, but more and more you see them stay in a familiar situation because there is little difference in development terms between a large youth club and what should be the top rung on the pyramid (TFCA) - and that is a bad, bad sign.

The problem with TFCA is that they have the right to cut any player at any time during the season so some of these kids don't want to have the risk that they are not going to be able to play anywhere if they get cut. That info came from someone who made the team and decide to go else where because of that. That is probably why the other teams in the GTA are getting better players.

I am not sure I buy this.  Osorio, Pena, Boyle and Furlano were all key players the last time this group got together.

Could it be that they will all be at the Generation Adidas Cup in Dallas next week and that is why they are not going to France?

Also, funny how when the CSA selects all academy kids, people rip the CSA for only scouting the academies.  When others are selected outside the academies, the academies get ripped.

I'm all for scouting the academies heavily. All else equal they have more of a chance of being useful to a young player than an amateur club, even some or the better ones.

Message needs to be sent that this is the way to develop. If you hold out for Europe or continue to play outside the system, you won't be ignored but the bar is set much higher.

That's most likely the case here

Fair enough, but that's four TFC players at the GA Cup and there are still 9 more GTA kids on this roster. So, did TFC miss adding some of these kids to their group of '98's (11 attending the GA Cup) or is the level of talent in the GTA that far ahead of the rest of the country at the '98 age group?

How many spots are on the TFCA per 98s?  I sure as hell hope those are not the only ~20 kids worth taking a look at.  Kids/family may choose different clubs for an array of reasons; family ties, geography, coaching, cost etc. You surely cannot fault the TFCA for other clubs in the GTA investing serious coin in their programs..

I'm sure there are more than just these 20 kids in the GTA that TFC should be considering, but I wouldn't expect many of them to be also considered for the U16 NT. I don't think all of the 11 kids they took to the GA Cup would be NT material either, so that means some or most of these 9 kids on the U16 NT who are not with TFC are as good or better than some of the kids on TFCA U17.

Good for the clubs if they're making investments and hiring TD's and certified coaches, however I just don't think there has been a seismic shift in grassroots development like you make it out to be. How many of these clubs have UEFA "A" or "B" licensed coaches at each group or even a TD that holds these certifications? Very few. How many of these clubs are free-to-play? None. TFC should easily be the destination of choice for all the top prospects, but it's not and they need to address that.
