Ivan
Too bad it couldn't come earlier. We could have used him the last week or so!

Barthez-Battalion
Is Floro even aware of Elva? Has media brought his name up to him during press conferences?
shermanator
Are you implying that our national team coach, who recently called up a player from League1 Ontario, and has called players from the NPSL in the past, does not know about a prospect at a Bundesliga club? Grizzly
I mean he obviously hasn't heard of drew Beckie, so..... Au contraire, Beckie's Twitter account is probably the first thing Floro reads when he wakes up in the morning!
toontownman
I heard Floro only turns to that when he is feeling down. That said given the enormity of his task as Canada manager maybe that is every morning!

Barthez-Battalion
On loan to Racing Strasbourg as of last week so that he can get more playing time. Comsia's club? edit: Yep. Seems like an odd place to loan him but at least he'll be playing. Edited February 3, 2015 by Barthez-Battalion
tarnado1555362291
Good move. Makes sense as Strasbourg, France is quite close to Stuttgart and as I understand it Elva is ineligible to play in any of the lower levels in Germany. Why isn't he eligible? I thought Germany was more lax in their work laws.

Barthez-Battalion
He will be eligible once he gets Canadian citizenship. Why? Does Germany have an embargo with St. Lucia or something? Obinna
Is the expectation for him to play with the first team? They are in the second tier right?
tarnado1555362291
BB, I don't know, but I think it's because Canada has a labour agreement with Germany and St. Lucia does not. Obinna, I hope so, they are in the third division after suffering financial difficulties. A pretty big club in France with a lot of history. Keegan
Is the expectation for him to play with the first team? They are in the second tier right? My guess is that he'll play with the youth/reserve team as Olivier Lacoste-Lebuis did years back. OLL actually played one match for Strasbourg senior squad in 2008 at 18 which I didn't know, a real shame that injuries slowed him down. He was a blue chip prospect in the same light as Boakai, Hamilton etc. Sorry to go off topic but is this professional game the reason he was never able to play for Maryland? I don't understand why the school thought they could bring in a kid who had played a match in Ligue 2.
Barthez-Battalion
Thanks. Does anyone know anything about Elva and his citizenship? Is he just waiting for his paperwork to go through? He doesn't live in Canada anymore so I imagine his residency requirement have been met.

We must either have wildly different opinions on these players, or the definition of a blue chip prospect. While all show great promise, I'd be very hesitant to name any of them a 'can't miss' player, with any sort of confidence.
jpg75
Canada and Germany have a reciprocating labour agreement so Canadians do not count as foreigners. A St. Lucian does count as foreign. I expect Elva will get some PT with the Strasbourg first team. They are in Championnat National which is 3rd tier. The B team plays in 6th tier which is a really low level. jpg75
On another note i think FIFA have removed the 2 year residency rule for minors (which is how Aleman was eligible). So now you have to apply for an exemption or the player must live in the country for 5 yrs after 18. The Americans have apparently had issues with this rule recently. We will likely have to petition FIFA for Elva to play for us it looks like.
tarnado1555362291
Caniggia Elva started at striker in the first match of the year for the Strasbourg Reserves (the division is termed "DH"). Racing Strasbourg defeated Soleil Bischheim 1 - 0 with a goal from, you guessed it, Elva. His potential is plain to see from Strasbourg fan chatter. He has also been training with the first team this week. http://racingstub.com/forum/comment/1320865#c1320865

The level of competition is probably no better than provincial senior amateur leagues in Canada like OSL, PCSL, AMSL etc. So don't bother getting too excited until he suits up for RC Strasbourgs' "A" team in the 3rd division.
