DJones
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bhstE6XLho Trialist Elva features as Arsenal U19s suffer disappointing defeat to Vietnam http://arsenalyouth.wordpress.com/ "Arsenal’s youngsters have some important matches on the horizon, with games to come in the latter stages of the FA Youth Cup, UEFA Youth League and the U21 Premier League Cup in the next few weeks, but their preparations suffered something of a blow yesterday when an Arsenal U19 side lost 3-0 to their Vietnamese counterparts in a behind-closed doors friendly at London Colney." "Arsenal were without several players who were on international duty, but still fielded a side containing the likes of Ryan Huddart, Tafari Moore, George Dobson, Elliot Wright, Arinse Uade, Renny Smith, Glen Kamara, Chris Willock and Austin Lipman. Canadian trialist Caniggia Elva (#10) also featured, with the striker coming close to scoring." "Arsenal U18s face West Ham United on Saturday morning before taking on Everton in the FA Youth Cup at Emirates Stadium on Monday." Too much dicking around on the ball led to a turnover on the first goal...keeper gets beaten near post on the first two goals by Vietnams' #10 - who looks like a decent little player. Elva with a header just wide for his scoring chance...

Ruffian
Was that actually supposed to be an image and it didn't show up? I had the same thought. I actually googled cap tie gif to see if there was a common gif for that and I got an image of a military hat with a ribbon on it.

GoatmealCrisp
Perhaps a German speaker here could shed light on today's latest update: http://www.derwesten.de/sport/lokalsport/hohenlimburg/von-st-lucia-in-die-welt-des-profifussballs-id9462610.html# If I'm interpreting Google Translate's efforts correctly he's going to sign for Stuttgart on July 14th, his 18th birthday, then be loaned out somewhere in Europe until he gets his Canadian passport? jpg75
^ Yeah that makes sense, Canadians don't count as foreigners in Germany so as a St. Lucian he would count. Interesting that he won't be playing on their youth team.
youllneverwalkalone
Finally, a Canadian passport is actually good for something is International Football? I must not understand the Tam Nsaliwa story very well though...
thescottc
Finally, a Canadian passport is actually good for something is International Football? I must not understand the Tam Nsaliwa story very well though... Tam gained German citizenship in order to become an EU-national and not count as an import player in Greece. But this is the first I'm hearing on Canadians not counting as foreigners in Germany. Explains a lot, though.

If i recall correctly, Grizzly explained that we have a labour movement agreement with the German government so since it encompasses everything our footballers benefit (so would our Hockey players i imagine). Addona
That's fantastic news. 4 year deal - is this with the first team? It is indeed fantastic news. The pessimist in me is wondering how, exactly, we will lose this guys to someone ... the U.S., St. Lucia, Mars? Is he currently eligible for us, and if so, how quickly can we cap-tie his ass in a GC / WCQ.
Bertuzzi44
Thank you Germany, for developing our players for us! (We understand Hargreaves and Fernandes weren't your fault ) Edited July 14, 2014 by Bertuzzi44 jpg75
Keegan
As has been said this kid wants to play for Canada and I believe his only other option is St. Lucia. But we'll see how German he feels after a season over there.
finchster
Finally, a Canadian passport is actually good for something is International Football? I must not understand the Tam Nsaliwa story very well though... http://www.tamnsaliwa.com/blog/?p=40 After the team got disqualified from WCQ I get a call to come play in Guatemala for the last mid week qualifier match they had, when my team then, Saarbrucken, had a monday and friday game in one week. Obviously this time I said no. At that time, I started the process for my German Citizenship, and basically I would only be allowed to keep my Canadian citizenship if there was an official reason the govt of Canada felt it was necessary for me to keep my citizenship. Obviously that would have been to represent Canada’s soccer team so I had to go to the CSA. I asked an official of the association who told me it would have to be discussed and decided by the head coach if that was a position the association felt it wanted to take. I didn’t hear anything concrete in return. I even went a step further and asked another official of the CSA I was close to, to draft a letter on behalf of the CSA to state I was a National Team player, but the German govt wanted a letter from Sports Canada and that could only be sanction by the powers that be in the CSA. I asked my original liaison at the CSA about this but I was informed that it was a matter even he could not really help me with. So, I left it at that and proceeded to pursue a German Citizenship. And yes, it was to help my career in Europe. So he wanted to get German Citizenship to further his career and Germany requires you to renounce your former citizenship unless you have an official reason. CSA didn't bother to get the proper paper work so he gave up his passport.
narduch
I'm going to take a wild guess that it was Earl Cochrane that fucked that up.
