You know MLS has it's well-deserved reputation of being a crappy retirement league that's non-competitive and amateur skill level so Cav made a mistake with this move. Why didn't CPL get him? He'd be great for Forge or York 9.

Between Robert and this guy the soccer gods are testing our patience as fans... it’s not enough that we suffer through disappointment after disappointment from our actual team!

I feel bad for this guy.

I know it's only the first game of the season. I knew the whitecaps would struggle to get Cavallini the ball, but I never envisioned it being that bad. The whitecaps were absolutely dreadful. Lucas was an island on his own. And it wasn't just him, Freddy Montero didn't get any of the ball either. The whitecaps seem to have no defined way of playing. All the players hold on to the ball for too much, or are not on the same page in general. I like Marc Dos Santos, but his group play with no believe and no confidence. I hate that Lucas Cavallini is in this situation, but that's what he signed up for. The few chances he had could have gone better for sure, but if this is how the season is going to go I think Lucas is going to want to jump ship and I wouldn't blame him. The players around him are just not good enough. The French-Serbian did well and the Colombian winger did well at times, but there was no coherency in the attack, just players doing their best to create chances as individuals. Things don't look good.

I was at the game, and I agree. To be honest, aside from maybe Malinkovic the entire team looked a step too slow, and a little flat yesterday. Lucas should’ve finished that through ball from Adnan to tie the game. Help is on the way though and let’s hope it’s only up from here for Cavallini and the caps 🤞🏻

Lucas Cavallini got a yellow card during our last two competitive matches:
In Toronto in October:

In Orlando in November:

I am 99% sure he is suspended for our first WCQ match against Bermuda. @Blackdude can you give me a 2nd opinion?)

These two documents seem to imply as much:

Cautions & Suspensions

Do you call him into the squad just to play against the Cayman Islands?
If not, who do you cut him for?

Yikes, didn’t realize this. We would really have been relying on him if we have to have a North American based team. We have plenty of starter level players in different positions, but our attackers are basically all based in Europe.

Do you bring in Tyler Pasher then? Tesho Akindele (as more of a central striker instead of on the wing)? Theo Bair? Somebody from CanPL? I assume we will have our full squad for these games; they would have to postpone things if we couldn't.  Therefore if you can bring in Euro-based players is Larin our first choice? Do you guys want to see Brym again?

I'd leave him, Larin is just as good as Cavallini and Larin adds other dimensions so I feel we could survive without him for those two games.

I’d call him anyways. Play Larin vs Bermuda and let Cav take the game vs Cayman Islands. Based on Herdmans interview, he’s going to call the best players available for every game. This means we won’t be seeing players like Pasher playing in the USL unless we really cannot call Euro based players and domestic players playing at a higher level are injured

Yeah, if European players can’t come, Cav and Tesho ... would Larin be available?  If so, he should get called, otherwise, Bair or Hamilton or it gives us an opportunity to cap tie Akinola!!!

Yea remember back when we said this move to the caps wasn’t going to be good for him - with lack of service being one of the reasons.

Midfield is an abomination - Tiebert is ummm not good. Metcalfe is worse.

still all that said, Cavallini has been disappointing. He has to make something happen and he hasn’t been able to. His hold up play has been awful. He holds some blame for this disaster too

Let’s add more Canadians for the feel good feelings!!

I agree about Cavallini’s hold up play - it hasn’t been good. It goes as far back as the game against the US away too.

However the expectation to make something happen is totally not his game. His game relies on service, and finishing chances created. If there isn’t any chances being created, there’s not much for him to finish.

But my god was that penalty awful....I don’t like where this is trending for him.
