This article mentions the fact that Defensor Sporting is interested in Lucas and mentions abroad interest from clubs though none are named. http://www.tenfield.com.uy/cavallini-reactiva-la-chance-de-salir/ This article mentions that there are just rumours of him being sold to an Italian club, but they confirmed that another player is leaving to Fiorentina. http://www.tenfield.com.uy/por-el-momento-solo-rumores/ And finally, this one mentions that a deal with Bologna fell through and that preseason will start on the 5th or the 7th of January http://www.tenfield.com.uy/cavallini-se-cayo-pase-a-italia/ They've said that there were other options abroad, in the first link. So, I wouldn't be surprised if another club came with the right offer and it could be another Italian club, but I do think that it's something to watch in January. Thanks for the clarification. MtlMario
I know there is a MLS club that might need a striker if someone named Drogba leaves prematurely. Edited December 28, 2015 by MtlMario

apbsmith
The pitbull just needs to score a goal for us in March vs Mexico. Mexico's national team is respected in the majority parts of the world. Scoring a goal in a World Cup qualifier vs Mexico is a very good notch on the CV. Will and can go a long way in landing an opportunity for a club career in Spain or elsewhere. That looks like a transfer, and to a solid Argentine club, but they loan him to where he is, Fenix in Uruguay, until the end of the Clausura. Just speculating but think that is it. Then he goes and does the next preseason with Colon for the Apertura late 2016. Colon is in Santa Fe which is a maybe 500 km away from Montevideo, if he just got married and has kids that does not take him too far away from his wife and her family. BrennanFan
This Argentine Spanish is killing me. I don't think the transfer went through.
Obinna
I really hope this deal goes through! Although Lucas never made an impact at Nacional, he has proven he can score in Uruguay. He's done it with multiple clubs over multiple seasons. It's time for him to challenge himself in a different, more difficult, environment. Whether or not he can get into the team (and do well) at Colon would perhaps tell us whether or not we have a real quality Forward in our ranks. Or, is he just merely another depth option? Thing is, the meaning is hard to catch. Colon almost disappeared in 2014 and went into what we would calll judicial administration, as they had creditors who had not been paid. The club was in 2nd division. In October 2014 the judge appointed the case decided to save the team and allow it to continue, but by naming an independant, three-person financial committee to oversea all budgetary questions, the "órgano fiduciario" mentioned here. Basically, Colon wanted the player and registered him, pending payment, but the entity controlling budget, this "órgano" mentioned, said no due to his high cost. It is not clear if that refers to his salary or a possible transfer, it would likely be both. Colon is only in top flight Argentina because they invented a double division and added 10 teams last year, so there are 30 (!!) in Argentine 1st division, in 2 conferences. I just found this out and am rather amazed by their gerrymandering. Fact is, Argentine top flight is not as strong as it once was because there are about 8 teams that have no right to be there based on quality of play. With Colon now out of the race, and the transfer window closed too, we'll have to wait until the summer. But I think the Colon interest may awaken similar from other Argentine clubs. I thought exactly the same thing, never seen just a thing in my life outside of North American pro sports; but just look at the table, it's amazing: http://es.fifa.com/world-match-centre/nationalleagues/nationalleague=argentina-primera-a-2000000128/standings/ Equally hilarious, they have the conferences called "Zones", but clubs that are neighbours in the same city are in different "zones" (Boca and River are separated). I have no idea of the schedule and won't look any more now !!

A few years ago, I talked with an Argentinean about the Argentine First Division and he believed they changed the relegation rules to protect the big clubs: Boca Juniors, River Plate, San Lorenzo, Independiente and Racing. This change regarding the relegation rule was based on average points of previous seasons. So if Boca Juniors had 2 good past seasons but finished last in the current season, they wouldn’t get relegated. Regardless, River Plate was relegated a few years ago, and then they came back in First Division and won it all after. So, I find interesting that you talked about the MLS. AFA realised there were too much parity in that level of the pyramid and the association don’t like to see one of their big 5 getting relegated. The first division has gone from 20 teams to 30 teams since 2015. Edited February 14, 2016 by canucklefan

Again, I don't think he issued a personal release on that and I can't find this twitter anymore, but I would think he's just focused on his club career now. He came back to a couple of camps, but Floro didn't put him in as a starter, so maybe he told Floro to fly a kite and re-focused on his career.
