NASL Player gets traded for hotel stay and transportation

Recommended Posts

Loads of leagues trade players they want off the books for "future considerations" or "allocation money" that don't amount to anything. Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield was once traded for dinner. The problem, to the extent that there is one, and that is to no extent, is that the Strikers were too transparent.

There is no real problem here at all other than it conveys an amateur, minor league image. Probably for both sides there were advantages to doing the trade for goods and services rather than cash but for image and marketing purposes it would have been better to announce it as something generic like future considerations. I remember from the Impact days in NASL/USL there was always crazy/funny/stupid stuff from the league and/or its teams. On the other hand while somewhat more professional, there is also a lot of stupid stuff in MLS. And the MLS stupid stuff tends to be big money corporate greed stupid stuff while in NASL it is more genuine low budget amateur stupid stuff with more character and originality.
