So Camilo's contract expires in December?

Not according to this:

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club has exercised the 2014 contract options on 11 players from their 2013 roster.

Whitecaps FC picked up the options on defenders Jordan Harvey and Carlyle Mitchell, midfielders Aminu Abdallah, Bryce Alderson, Gershon Koffie, Erik Hurtado, Nigel Reo-Coker, Russell Teibert, and Matt Watson, as well as strikers Omar Salgado and Camilo Sanvezzo.

Why? He counts as a domestic. He's counts as an off-budget. He is still only 20. He has a boatload of untapped potential. He is tall and strong. He has good good dribbling and pace. His footy IQ is above average.

He has all the makings of a quality footballer, who should be a heck of an MLS player if he can get past his injuries. Plus the risk of keeping him on the squad is relatively nothing.

EDIT: ESPN reporting Camilo close to deal with MX side

because he sucks?

I realize that DC took his rights in the latest draft but I wonder if the Caps might be looking at Attakora at RB. Remember when he was training with the club for a short spell? My sense was that was Coach Carl's doing. The two played together at Toronto in case anyone has forgotten. He wouldn't be high on my list but he might be a useful guy to have in a Canadian slot and he of course can play CB perhaps better than he can RB.

Dude, he's already listed on their wikipedia page! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quer%C3%A9taro_F.C.

If for some reason this doesn't happen I think the Caps should should offer him a DP deal. Seriously, he bags a ton of ridiculous goals, he puts bums in seats, his best years are in front of him, and least we forget that whatever is paid for him, I think the Caps will only see (again I think) ~30% of it in the form of the infamous "allocation money"... the league technically owns him and gets most of the cash.

Does anyone know what REB is up to these days? Not that the Caps need another young speedy striking option, and not that a return to MLS would likely be in his best interests either.

That was from October I think. He was training with them but wasn't signed. We'll see what happens in the January window.

This is from last week. He is still training with them. They want to sign him but are seeing if they can manage it financially. They just cut 5 players from the 1st team and sent them to their 2nd team but are hoping one or more of these players can find another team so they would be freed from the contract making it easier for them to sign REB.

Well. being on the Wiki page doesn't meant ****. There could be another player on the team, also Brazilian, with the same name, and it links to him. It could be wishful thinking on the part of a fan. Or a troll. I recently had to remove a Roger Thompson from the forwards line up of the CMNT's most recent incarnation as listed on the wikipedia page. This is the second time I've had to do it!!

More importantly. He has not eve a hint of a mention on this Mexican teams website. Nor does he appear in their roster. So. No need to panic yet.

Inevitable. Every league in the world does it and we are not immune. Smart to sell high like this though rather than buy high (like Defoe or Dempsey). Pity for Coach Carl though as Camilo was his biggest fan. Pity for the offense as hard to imagine what it looks like without him. Talk about a gem of a find, though. Whoever found him deserves their name etched in the rafters.

I think with the Golden Boot and Goal of the Year coupled with the MLS' rising reputation in the world. Has made the selling of Camilo an inevitability. Like Nolando said it is a bit rough for Carl losing his number one supporter and striker in one swift move.

Miller, Mattocks and Manneh maybe prove enough for strikers along with Salgado and Clarke.

Hopefully we can bring in a quality attacking mid with the transfer fee. Whatever it is we get out of it.

Interesting stuff.

Province Sports @provincesports

According @rene_tovar's sources, Camilo's agent says his client is a free agent, that they declined the Whitecaps' option on the contract.

Province Sports @provincesports

The Whitecaps insist that the option clause Camilo's contract belongs to the club alone, that they've excised that option.

Province Sports @provincesports

The Whitecaps also insist that they continue to hold Camilo's ITC, which means that Soccer Canada and FIFA would back them up in a dispute.
