Just a crazy idea, we could get a cellphone with Skype and give it to some of the admin staff that travels with the team so they can give constant updates on real time.

U.S. Men were to play Ukraine in Cyprus March 5.

NICOSIA: Football referees in Cyprus decided Friday to go on strike in protest at a bomb attack on one of their colleagues, scrapping all matches this weekend.

The car of referee Leontios Trattos was badly damaged in the blast at around 2:45 am outside his home in a suburb of the capital Nicosia, police said.

There were no casualties in the explosion, believed to have been detonated by remote control.

"The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) condemns in the strongest possible way this attack and expresses its shame," said the island's governing body for football.

"Such acts of terror only aim to exert psychological violence against our match officials and blight our football family," it added.

Trattos is an international official who has refereed World Cup and European Championship qualifiers as well as Europa League matches.

The strike affects all CFA fixtures from the first division through the lower leagues down to youth level football.

The referees association said they had to take a stand against such an unprecedented and violent act against one of their own -- and their chairman.

The CFA issued a statement saying it supported the action as the attack went "beyond the bounds of reason".

The association, which said postponed matches will be played on March 8-9, urged police to clamp down on efforts to pressure top flight referees.

A lot of people hot and bothered about a comment John Herdman made about older players training repetitively on turf.

a) most of these athletes are on turf day-in and day-out the entire season for club in the States

B) the WC is a brief period one summer every four years

The original argument being presented was that the prestige of the tournament deserved grass, it had nothing to do with it's safety. When a comment on safety is referenced by people who supported that argument, this is called a red herring.

When she had the injury in Cyprus, was Lauren Sesselmann on grass? And was it an impact or a plant?

Hopefully she can expedite the recovery.

I am sure that Mr. Jeffrey Webb was not including the Cyprus cup in his figures. Unless of course the usual TV Stations' bandits will broadcast our women games.

“With an average television viewership of almost 200,000 for each women’s game, we can really see the growth of soccer in Canada, and in our region”

Someone needs to tell Mr. Herdman that World Cup play is not Club play, and he better listens!

Yes, I know that this thread is for the Cyprus Cup but the two tournaments run concurrently and there is always some talk about why Canada is not in the Algarve Cup instead.

The United States is sitting with only 1 point after 2 games after a 1-1 draw with Japan and a 1-0 loss to Sweden. You don't want to know who scored the lone US goal, trust me :( And Norway is sitting with 0 points after a 1-0 loss to China and a 2-1 loss to Iceland. In both the men's and women's game Iceland has been punching waaaaay above their weight lately.

Meanwhile both Sweden and Germany are rolling along with 6 points after 2 games.

You probably already know how the CWNT is doing thanks to Squizz but if you are looking for results of the other games, you can find them here:

The official Cyprus Cup tournament website seems to be run with a bit of a mañana attitude as it has the schedule posted but no results and no group information.

BTW, England won both of their games too, a 2-0 win over Italy and a 3-0 win over Finland. The England Canada match should be a good one and will determine the group winner. Go Big Red, Allez les Rouges!!

So scored on in fifty seconds, Sinclair left in all game and 0 points on the board, losing to England is not acceptable, and the CSA better start realizing it needs to retool fast for 2015. Its time the Technical Director had a chat with his coach.

England is a quickly improving team. Let's not get caught up on a loss. The world #1 Americans lost 5(!)-3 to Denmark today and are winless in three in the Algarve. Denmark lost 2-0 to Sweden and in their last couple games before the tournament lost to Switzerland and tied #44 Serbia.

Sunshine tournaments are nice to win, but no one other than the winners remember who won them.

England have a national youth academy system that feeds into the Women's Super League with an additional Tier 2 league behind it this year in a relegation system. They also have great coaching all the way down. They have a good formula and recipe. Europe is becoming more competitive and as a result a number of European countries are professionalizing what they're doing.

Playing teams in the 9-12 range often meant playing programs that went through spells with limited funding and organization. Not any more.

If we're going to be competitive with countries that have solid infrastructure we have to be better than them at talent recognition and tactics and identifying who can raise their game to the highest level when it matters.

Everything going on now is information. It's what you do with that information when it counts that matters.

Nice to see the young kid get a half hour and hold her own.

Duane Rollins is right. Herdman's excuse of we are still in the rebuilding phase is getting lame. Have not been impressed with his decisions so far. D-Scott was a sub 2 of the 3 games played. His continue obsession with Zurrer and they still had trouble dealing with teams with pace. The finishing had been lacking (against the top teams) as well. Not too optimistic about this team's chances in the 2015.

Herdman should stop bragging so much and start coaching if he can. Time for him to start listening. To think we are stuck with him until 2018 is regrettable.

[h=1]Algarve Cup broadcast live in 70 countries[/h]in Algarve · 06-03-2014 15:17:00 · 0 Comments

The Algarve Cup, a women’s football championship which is currently taking place until 12 March in the Algarve, this year will be broadcast live in more than 70 countries.

Hosted by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and held annually in the Algarve since 1994, it is one of the most prestigious women’s football events, alongside the Women’s World Cup and Women’s Olympic Football.

According to the FPF, this year more than 70 countries will be able to watch the games live on television.

“The tournament will be covered, with the transmission of games, live and replayed, and also round-ups, in 70 different countries” said Mónica Jorge, the director of the Federation during a press conference held earlier this week in Faro.

Ms. Jorge stressed that “the tournament will have an impact in 70 countries, which is clearly a bonus for the Algarve and can go a long way towards its promotion.”

Stressing the potential of promoting the country and the region beyond borders, Mónica Jorge staged the tournament’s staging in Japan in 2012 as an example of how successful it can be. That year it drew in around 5.5 million viewers, she emphasised.

Affirming that the event “strikes chords within the industry”, Ms. Jorge elaborated that it also makes direct contributions to the economy, hotels and local commerce.

The main teams participating in the event this year are Germany (reigning European champions), the USA (2012 Olympic champions and current tournament leaders) and Japan (world champions in 2011).

Portugal played Austria earlier this week on 5 March (Wednesday), and will now go on to face Russia (7 March) and North Korea (10 March).

The Portuguese team’s games will be broadcast by national channel RTP2.

So Vic what would you do with information ?

Stick your Ostrich derriere in the air and bury your head in the sand ...or start calling out your teams leaders to step it up ?

When the US lose to Denmark and Canada loses to England, North American Women's soccer is in trouble, both programs had better wake up before the wave pushes them away from the top of the podium.

In Canada's case a round robin defeat in 2015 with a 8 to 1 score line would put a huge nail into women's soccer in Canada.

Herdman better start expressing some urgency to his charges and the CSA needs to be aware a plan B before World Cup may be necessary.

( look at what Hockey Canada did prior to the Olympics with the women for an example ).

I totally agree, but I can't see Herdman changing his condescending style.
