Lokomotiv Leipzig

I'll post this here since we have already discussed issues of Lokomotiv Leipzig and their neo-Nazi support on this thread since two Canadians are now playing for them. Next week Chemie will be playing LOK II which is the first meeting between the clubs at any level for several years. Despite being in the 7th division the game will undoubtedly be classified by the police as the highest security level and will have a heavy police presence. The football authorities have also scheduled a Lokomotiv 1st team game in Leipzig at the exact same time in an effort to try to minimize the number of LOK fans who will show up to this game.

This weekend LOK fans broke into Chemie's stadium and spray painted Nazi and anti-semitic graffiti. They painted the star of David over Chemie symbols, wrote Juden Chemie (Jewish Chemie) and NSU (National Socialist Underground, a Nazi terrorist group). Several photos can be seen here:

The job of a journalist is to report the news as it is not to spare readers from unpleasant stories.

Yes the derby has been canceled/posponed out of "security concerns" which really disappoints me despite not being there and the fact there would undoubtedly be problems (as there were at every Leipzig derby I attended). Nevertheless, it was always the match you circled on your calendar and waited for with anticipation and given that Chemie is now in the 7th division it is not like us Chemiker have a lot of other matches to look forward to.

It has to be a first for the German 7th division to have a match canceled due to the threat of violence. The geniuses who scheduled this game did not notice that it was on the anniversary of the German invasion of Poland which is never the type of date you want to have a Chemie-LOK match on. The following article in German states, "There was information that extreme right-wing football fans from all over Germany were going to use this game in the stadium of BSG Chemie which is known for its anti-racist position as a platform for riots on the anniversary of the invasion of Poland." Apparently even some Lazio hooligans were going to travel from Italy for the game to join the neo-Nazi LOK fans. In all liklihood, with the large number of neo-Nazis travelling to the match there also would have been many members of the antifa from all over Germany going to the game as well on Chemie's side. It could have set 7th division attendance records but probably would have had more police and security than most 1st Bundesliga games.

This video shows what type of police security they have for the Leipzig derby regardless of what division it is played in. It is from 5 years ago which I think was the last derby when LOK played Chemie U23 in the 5th division. Close to 10 000 fans were in the stadium. The announcer says at the beginning of the report, "Water cannons and armoured vehicles, scenes like this make one forget that this is all only for a 5th division game."
