USA v. Bosnia

I believe we overachieve due to the shot of adrenaline from a rivalry match. For whatever reason, we can't see the other CONCACAF nations as rivals. And the US are too busy worrying about Mexico to pay any attention to us. Interesting psychological problem. FTR, 1 goal scored and 2 points from 4 matches is not really a record to be celebrated. That 4 goals scored, 1 conceded, and 8 points for them. Sounds like another level to me.

So, if that's the case, do they just exceptionally underperform when we play them (last 4 results against them: 1-2, 0-2, 0-0, 0-0)?

By no means am I celebrating our record against them. They are the better team, there is no question.

I just don't understand the argument that we don't deserve to be on the same pitch as them.

I recall writing that we aren't in the same 50 as the US, meaning FIFA ranking. Strictly speaking Martinique and Ventura County dont deserve to be on the same pitch as Canada, yet look at the results. Sport is a funny thing and that's why they actually play the games.

Whatever their record in any competition, I'd rather choke on my own vomit than cheer for the USA.

+1.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that the US scored 4 times in the 2nd half, after Bosnia subbed out there starting CBs at halftime. If the tables had been turned, you KNOW the ESPN guys would be downplaying it all as part of the subs made.

+1. Except Honduras.

I know, it is sick, but I cheer for even Honduras at the WC.

I also follow the USA closely, since they are one of the two iconic teams for CONCACAF. I just want to point out the depth that they have. Man, they are getting ridiculously deep. They arguably called an -A/+B team and still beat Bosnia (who were at full strength) in Bosnia. They never called Chandler, Beasley, Cherundolo, Besler, Gonzalez, Goodson....Zuzi, Edu, Williams, Torres, Shea, Beckerman.....or Dempsey, Donovan, Wondolowski, Gomez, Agudelo.

Those players listed there show that the USA can pretty much pick two teams capable of competing at the world cup. They are so far ahead of us it is insane.

Amen brutha. I am no American supporter as anyone who knows me here would confirm, but damn they are so far ahead of us it makes me sick. And hockey is next. Back the 60's, 70's and 80's most NHL players had summer jobs back in the home land, now they live in the US year 'round. Thus American children, but that is only the tip of it. US money means full year development camps. Ten times the population and ten times the funds leads to elite level status. My oldest is a semi-elite hockey kid at ten years of age. He is already being asked to choose a country. Absolutely insane.

I don't think that is truly a big deal. The offspring of NHL children might help, but it's not a big game changer.

As for soccer, they're so far a head of us now, but that can all change in a decade. Ten years ago, the Netherlands were so far a head of Belgium it probably made the latter sick. Now look at them.

As an American who lives in Canada and married to a Canadian I follow both teams pretty closely. I cheer for the USA first since its my country of birth and I lived in Texas until my 30s but I cheer for Canada #2. I do cheer for any CONCACAF side when they play an outside team, better results = better FIFA Ranking.

It is nice as an American that we've developed some depth and are able to field two pretty good squads. Getting a win in Eurpoe against a top level side is still really big for US Soccer, regardless of the circumstances. Kilnnsman has brought a level of professionalism and motivation they have never seen in the states and its paying off. 12 wins in a row pretty impressive.

US didnt get here overnight and its a LONG process to go from also ran to contender. Canada IMO has the tools to get it done but patience is needed. This thing is in bad shape at the moment, but give Floro some time I think he can turn the culture around. Best thing would be some good results and get the 2nd generation kids in Canada to WANT to play for Canada and not the country of their parents. US is finally making inroads in the Mexican-American community and its starting to pay off, I think the outreach by US Soccer and their success are big reasons for it. I could see Canada soccer do similar things as well!

Begovic did play for Canada in the U-20 World Cup....and was on the bench during a 2010 WCQ

USA quality depth should be credited to MLS where quality of league has improved. So USMNT is benefiting from that!

Canada can't complete until we either have our league or every Canadian city has a professional soccer team where Canadians can play and develop. 3 Canadian MLS teams and along with FC Edmonton is helping Canadian program (we're seeing some positive results from our youth teams), but that isn't enough. But it shows how much an impact a pro team has on your national program.

It's going to take a while for Canada to get there, but we do have resources now that we didn't have before. It's going to take a good 20-30 years to see quality rise in our national program once we established professional leagues/clubs in our country.

This statement is debatable.

How so? Without MLS, there will be less Americans playing professional these days which will result in less depth and quality in their national team. Just imagine where would guys like Landon Donovan be without MLS. Same could be said about some of Canadian players like DeRo (who struggle playing overseas).
