I have no problem with flares if they are used outside by supporters who know what they are doing. But you can't start fires in doors, particularly with a fabric roof over your head and fabric over the seats close to you. The flare actually landed under a some tarped seating and injured a few people. What other explanation can there be for a guy from Montreal who doesn't understand this? Years of ****ing the dog, living on the dole, and taking every available shortcut has caught up with you. Unlike Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland, we can't support the rest of the country with oil & gas revenue. We have to do it by keeping our city liveable. The fact that they don't in Saputo is probably also indicative of the fact that it's a privately owned facility and the supporters can do what the club will allow them. If we had that in Vancouver and the ownership said no flares, I'd be more sympathetic. The Caps don't have much control over rules at BC Place. I saw Bradford City's Stadium Burn Down Live on TV back in the 1980's Burning the place down was actually probably the best thing that happened to that version of Valley Parade, but not at the cost of 50 lives. Bradford City is always mentioned by fun police who are completely ignorant or willfully distorting its history. The fire was not caused by flares but was likely caused by discarded burning cigarettes or a match. It was an old partially wooden stadium that was poorly maintained and broke almost every immaginable fire code violation. The fire was caused by years of accumulated garbage under the stands igniting and then lighting parts of the wooden structure on fire. When fans first noticed the fire they tried to get fire extinguishers only to find that the club had removed them and many of the exits of the stadium were locked casuing the death of many fans who otherwise would have escaped. Should flares be used in wooden stadiums full of rubbish with locked exits and no fire extinguishing capability? No. Flares are used in hundreds of soccer games worldwide every week without causing injuries or the apparent trauma to onlookers that occurred in Vancouver. This is Vancouver attitude: Karl Ellis of Surrey, who was at the game with his 10-year-old son, called the incident “scary.” “The smell and taste was horrific,” said Ellis, even though his seats were two sections over from where the flare was set off. Ellis said he saw a “middle-aged woman screaming and coughing very, very badly and people actually running away from smoke.” The smoke blew over Ellis and his son, causing them to cough. He was happy to see security and B.C. Not so much worried with the wimpisness of the Vancouverittes interviewed as they were probably at the other end of the stadium, so I'd probably agree with that. I get the impression that BC can be full of Full of what we call back at Home "Daily Mailers". Still, I watched on TV as a kid, irrespective of all that was wrong with he place and it practices, a Stadium burn down with people in it, caused by an insignificant cigarette butt. Few years later I was in the Kop prior to its rebuild when someone lit a flare there. Result. Some people got scared, Someone's shell Suit got torched (which could be seen as appositive thing by some) and the individual who was holding the flare got tossed from the stadium. I know it a European thing to torch things, as is chucking donkeys of castle walls and throwing tomatoes at bulls for some reason. Call it Pavlovian on my part I still don't like fire (Of any kind ) in stadiums. By the by If you want to do something stupid in a Modern English stadium. Get dressed as Kermit, Bertie Basset and the Honey Monster and then get beered up. Result. Escorted Out of the Ashes by stewards to the Cheers of the Barmy army... Who needs flares.
