CSL 2013--Week 14

Recommended Posts

Result and details from the Sunday August 4, 2013 CSL game between

Brampton City United and Serbian White Eagles played at Victoria

Park in Brampton at 5:30pm.

30 min...BCU David Velastagui GOAL...BCU Thomas McLean sends a 50 yard

cross from the right into the SWE box and the ball bounces between

a defender and goalie Scott Cliff and Velastagui at 12 yards on left

gets ball and shoots 7 yarder into empty net.

Final Score:.......Brampton City United........1...........

.......Serbian White Eagles............0.............

Attendance was about 150 on this warm, sunny day with a wind

from the east.

This was a rough game in spots with a lot of sliding checks, bumps,

and trips. Referee Marie-Soleil Beaudoin gave out seven Yellow

cards that I counted (four against Brampton) plus a direct Red to

the SWE backup goalie on the bench for some comments yelled at

82 minutes. This player had played in the Reserves league game

(CSL 2nd division) that finished here about 45 minutes before

this game started but I didn't see him on the lineup sheets.

A bad day for him as they had lost 4-0 to the Brampton B team.

Referee Beaudoin gave both teams plenty of warnings between giving

out cards.

Christian Maraldo earned the shutout for Brampton having to make

a few important saves. He is a backup goalie to Carmen Benzi

who was Red carded in last week's game against London City

(a 2-0 loss) and this was Benzi's first of a three game suspension.

Scott Cliff was the White Eagles goalie and he had to make some

huge saves to keep them in the game right up to the last minute.

White Eagles had a new forward (although he scored two goals against

Windsor in a road game last weekend) Sahjah Reid. Today's

game he made a lot of bad passes that broke up their runs

and fell a lot. He has a good move when he's down on a scissor

tackle and he hopped up a few times and continued his run before

the defender could react.

Best non-scoring chances were at 44 minutes when SWE Nikola Negejevic

crossed from the left sideline and SWE Sahjah Reid knocked the ball

on the fly but SWE Ivan Stankovic blasted a 12 yard shot off the

right post so hard it cleared out the left side of the box.

53 minutes had BCU Tarik Robertson intercept a pass at the center

line on the left and pushed a forward pass through and BCU Marcos

Nunes rushed in and took a 7 yard shot from the left that was stopped

point blank by the goalie's slide. 59 minutes had BCU David

Velastagui cross from 30 yards on the right and a BCU player blasted

a 10 yarder that the goalie blocked by sprawling at 2 yards.

76 minutes had BCU Velastagui take a cornerkick from the right that

had the ball knocked down and BCU Nunes blasted a 12 yard shot that

a falling defender blocked on the line near the left post. 82 minutes

had SWE Ramon Bailey take a 40 yard freekick from the left that

was low and deflected off an SWE player and rolled just wide right

of the post.

SWE had their home game on Friday night against SC Waterloo

postponed because their home field of Centennial Stadium in

Etobicoke is still not ready after the extensive damage to

the field caused by the storms/floods last month. There

is hope that the City of Toronto will have the repairs made

by next Friday for the next White Eagles game followed by

Sunday's Toronto Croatia game (they also use the same home

field). Otherwise the league will be in some fixture

backlog trouble as they've already delayed two SWE home games.

Brampton's season record improves to 9 wins, 3 losses, 0 ties,

which moves them into a tie for 3rd place with Toronto Croatia

although that team is playing later tonight. Serbia falls

to 3 wins, 8 losses, 1 tie, which leaves them all alone in

10th spot in the 12 team league.
