Ivan
Where's Raheem Taylor-Parkes? He's 2 years younger than most of these guys. Look for him in the next U17 edition.
BCM
Good point. I guess I'm just overly concerned, as he's played in a US camp earlier this year before switching to the bright side.
An Observer
The main surprise omission to me is Kianz Froese at the whitecaps. He seems to be one of if not the best midfielder at this age. He played for Cuba at the Concacaf qualifiers 2 years ago but then seemed to switch to Canada as he was playing for us in the lead up to the Concacaf qualifiers this year. He missed that because he was injured (i thought). Perhaps its not so clear cut now.

If he develops, I can't see him ever playing for Cuba MNT - they bar professionals and I don't think he'd move south and play in the local league. An Observer - just noticed you're in HK. Where at? Fancy a drink sometime?
youllneverwalkalone
I thought you weren't allowed to play in the same competition for two nations?
maccaliam
^ I thought the same thing. Plus, I also thought there was some rule where a player can only play in the U17s once, regardless of whether it was with the same country or not.

El Hombre
Why a camp in Florida in August ? A) Because the actual tournament is in the UAE? Because there are facilities available in Florida? C) Because we always seem to have camps in Florida or thereabouts?
JamboAl
On the timing, because these kids are still under 17, they are still going to high school or equivalent (or should be). Unless the question was about why Florida, in which case the #1 Rob Friend (and Pedro Pacheco) fan has already addressed that.
seventhheaven
In regards to Froese not at the camp. You can only play in one world cup at U17. Concacaf does not have that stipulation. There is a U18 camp in Spain starting August 8, he is on that roster. The team needs to start preparing, first camp since Concacaf. It is hot in Florida, school is out. Mexico again is hot and most players are from Canada so easy to get to logistically.
Ivan
^ Thanks seventhheaven. But why would he be at that camp and not getting ready for the U17WC?
Scottie
The CSA has a loyalty card at the Sunrise Holiday Inn. 9 training camps and the 10th is free! As well as 10% off breakfast on the 4th and 7th camp.
maccaliam
^ Thanks seventhheaven. But why would he be at that camp and not getting ready for the U17WC? As I understand it, he is ineligible for the U17 WC this time around having competed in the 2011 U17WC qualifiers with Cuba. http://concacaf.globalsportsmedia.com/page.php?sport=soccer&language_id=us&page=tournament&view=match&match_id=1060608

By the way, Derek Sequira of TFC played in the qualifiers off the bench. He wasn't invited this time around.
maccaliam
Not really what seventhheaven implied above, but as stated previously, it makes some sense. Really? I guess we've looked at it two different ways then (and I'm still unsure of your take on it). I thought he was saying that the reason he was allowed to participate in qualifying this year with Canada is that CONCACAF allows you to participate in the same competition with different countries, but as FIFA doesn't allow this, he can't continue on with Canada to the actual U17 WC. maccaliam
Yup, I get that. But he didn't play in the last WC as Cuba didn't make it (or did they?). No, they didn't but my assumption is that as the CONCACAF championships are FIFA sanctioned, whatever country a player plays with first is who they are cap-tied to (for future U17s anyway). CONCACAF are ok with a player switching countries within the same age group competition but FIFA isn't. I realize I may not be expressing myself as clearly as I think I am, so apologies if that is the case.
