In their first match, Canada came from two goals down to draw France. In their second match, aided by two red cards to Peru, Canada easily won 2-0. On the final matchday (today), with France leading (and ultimately handily defeating) Peru, Canada needed to draw Brazil to advance to the quarterfinals, and did so by again coming from behind and eliminating Brazil on goal difference!

QUARTERFINALS

July 12

Russia 4-1 Canada

9' Russia goal

28' Russia goal

45'+1' Russia red card

90'+1' Russia goal

90'+2' Russia goal

France 0-0 (PK 4-3) Ireland

Japan 4-0 Malaysia

Great Britain 1-0 Ukraine

Too bad we couldn't capitalize on being up a man for the entire second half. But, despite the lopsided final score, we were in it until the very end. Perhaps Russia got their two injury time goals while we were pressing for an equalizer.

Canada now moves on to the 5th-8th place bracket, where we will first play Ukraine on July 14.

Malaysia 1-3 Canada

Visintin also missed a PK at some point, the fourth that Canada were awarded in 6 matches.

So, 7th place, our second-best finish ever at this tournament.
