Win but don't win to an extent where Miller looks like he's a genius.

So win and hope that Miller is publicly humiliated in some tawdry way (hookers, public drunkeness or accidentally back over the ref's dog).

Seriously, in terms of results, getting out of our group would be a success but I don't think that is the only indicator of success (although it is a pretty big one). Showing that we have learned how to deal with minnows is one, there is little more frustrating than haveing to scramble to score against the likes of Bermuda or St Kitts. Showing that there is some sort of tactical and stylistic way we are trying to play, be it break wide and try to hit the centre forward or ball handle through the middle, some thing more than playing as eleven individuals deathly frightened of losing. A sense that the (relative) parity that we have with others in CONCACAF at the younger ages is not completely gone by the time the senior men take the field. A sense that there is talent on the field and on the bench that can grow and have a real shot at the Hex (which is our real goal at this point, we have to get there before we can hope for the World Cup). These are all things that fall into the category of "I know it when I see it" and hopefully we'll see it starting sunday.

I think a lot of mistakes were made for this roster and I really don't expect any wins this tournament.

I genuinely think that a draw would be a nice result for this group.

Bernier being left out of the roster is ridiculous. De Ro too, though that doesn't matter at the moment since he appears to be injured.

A kid like Piette, yes I understand that the CSA has a high opinion of him, but until he is factoring in at the club level I really don't see the point to bringing him along all the time as he will not be a contributor at this age.

I feel the same about Aleman, unless they use this tournament to cap tie him so we don't have to deal with him going to Costa Rica (but for some reason I see him riding the pine the whole time and never getting in)

If Ricketts plays over Jackson I will lose my mind. Jackson doesn't really fit the system we play but Ricketts is awful (as much as I hate to say it cuz he has a ton of heart)

And finally, as much as I like Haber I think he is in over his head to be playing the role he will be with the team. I really think Friend should have been brought in (yes, I know not many will agree. I myself have been frustrated with him in the past but I still feel he is a better option than Haber at this point)

Good on the CSA for making this thread irrelevant. Now we can just cheer for our national team without any fear that a good result will lead to them doing something stupid that will harm the national team program long term like hiring Miller or Yallop. An experienced, qualified head coach required and an experienced qualified head coach delivered. Good job by the CSA.

I wonder if the thinking on Piette is that he'll ultimately get converted to RB. I wish someone could explain why we have almost no depth in this position? It would seem a position Canadians would be suited for.
