Trillium
So to be a bit of "a Thickie" on my part, were looking at names that may make the step up to NASL, right? I was looking at the list in that light too, wondered what local talent might get a NASL bite with Fury and what young ones could make the transistion. Building an NASL squad will need some older veterans of the wars in lower level leagues, hopefully dollar value guys out of Central America or South America who want to give young familys a experience in a very livable North American city. I think you might get five out of the group to move to NASL level, its not clear if Fury will retain the PDL squad, I hope they do as their Academy team or Reserve squad. Would be great to see the ownership have the ambition to mount a solid V Cup squad versus a TFC in year one. That could sell out the 20k venue, and give the club a strong start if the supporters group comes alive quickly.
MM2
Justin Maheu, S -interesting he has been playing with FC Gatineau in the PLSQ, both teams play most of their home games on Friday nights.
Guest GoGreen
Are we only looking at current Fury players? Hemming of FC London a former Fury player I believe should be able to make the transition one would think.

That is Samuel Maheu actually who is playing for FC Gatineau. Justin didn't play for FC Gatineau.
ironcub14
I've been to all 3 home games so far but I've been paying less attention to each players than I would if I was watching on TV... cuz, you know, we are spending half the time thinking about what insults we should be hurling at our opponents So, there are still much careful observations to be made, but Carl Haworth and Yannis Becker have been the two that have stood out the most, both in their play and in the stat sheets. Becker, in particular, is quickly becoming a fan favourite lol. Wouldnt mind either of them jumping up to the NASL squad! Quick q, anybody discussing Fury PDL in BigSoccer, or are we only discussing Fury NASL there? Couldnt find a thread for Fury PDL!

alberta white
Question I have is will/ can the fury retain a PDL outfit as a reserve /academy squad. One of the prerequisites for the NASL is to create an academy.
elmateo
As I understand it, the Ottawa Fury PDL is owned by John Pugh and different from Ottawa Fury FC owned by OSEG. Pugh is the President of Fury FC so there are obviously deep linkages. I don't know the full extent of the legal tie ups but I can imagine that the youth structure will continue to exist, the PDL team may be replaced by a different reserve team as the PDL is a short season and for mostly college-based players during the summer. Though they may keep the PDL to bring college players into the Fury FC.
alberta white
Understood. Is the college element you speak of NCAA. If it is is it restrictive? I note that Edmonton has it academy based in St Josephs high school. In essence the kids in Edmonton are on High school scholarships. 5 of who graduated to Pro contracts this year, with Roberts and Jalali been thrust into action very early indeed. I like how they've been calling the PDL squad Ottawa Fury SC to distinguish from the NASL side, which will be Ottawa Fury FC. A tiny subtle change that will mean so much more next year.. I hope they keep a squad in the PDL as well. Other NASL sides, which league does their reserve sides play? Im curious now!

A highlight for me was a beautifully taken free kick at a home game in Algonquin College Soccer Complex. The guy seems serious about competing for a spot with the NASL team. I'm guessing that's a reason he came over from FC London. With usual starting goalkeeper Nils Carlson out with an injury, Chad Bush has been starting games for the Fury as well. He's been doing great. Carlson fills a big leadership role with the Fury, bit Chad has managed to make a good mark as a back-up. In the last home game against Vermont Voltage, he came up with at least one high-light reel save where he stopped two consecutive drives. So long story short, at least two Canadians on that list are doing well. Both have shots at the NASL side, as far as I can tell.

Red and White
I think he'll just be backing up Chad Bush. This may also confirm that Nils Carlson is out for the season. Which is too bad, because he's a great keeper. But, at least it opens time for Chad to show what he can do in goal. And Fussball_eh, don't forget whatever playoff games the Fury get . Its very easy to forget those in PDL lol.
