Rocket Robin
Result of the Friday May 17, 2013 CSL game between Serbian White Eagles and Astros Vasas FC played at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke at 9:00pm. 21 min...SWE Djorjije Strunjas GOAL...SWE Kiril Dimitrov rolls 28 yard freekick from left forward for charging SWE Ivan Stankovic who stops ball on end line and rolls cross through box for Strunjas to shoot low 15 yard shot from middle into left side of net beyond diving goalie Antal-Andras Toth. 73 min...SWE Ivan Stankovic GOAL...Astros David James was injured when he kicked the ball and it was blocked by a SWE defender at SWE 30 yard line but that set the SWE team on a breakout. SWE Kiril Dimitrov rushed up the right and crossed from 25 yards on a sharp angle. Stankovic was behind two players leaping for the ball that was over their heads and he blasts 12 yard shot into top right side of net. (James was subbed out before play resumed). 82 min...SWE Kiril Dimitrov GOAL...SWE Ivan Stankovic receives short pass and blasts 18 yarder off bar. Ball ends up over to Dimitrov who rushes in from right from 22 yards and his sharp angle shot is just inside the left corner of the net. Final Score:.....Serbian White Eagles.....3...... Astros Vasas FC.......0...... Attendance was about 125 on this cool night for the White Eagles home opener. This was their first game of the season after having last week's road trip game in Burlington cancelled at the last minute. The game started at 9:10pm as the kiddy lacrosse players practice permit holders dragged their feet clearing the field until the last possible minute. SWE warmed up in one endzone and Astros were on a field outside the stadium (so I heard). Referee Alexis Vaughan had an easy game to call without a lot of hard tackles. I only counted her giving out three Yellow cards--two to the Astros. This was the second loss in two game for the Astros. They lost their opening game 1-0 to York Region Shooters on an injury time goal. Their major problem appears to still be goal scoring. They only had 15 in 22 games last year. Another problem carried over from last year is surrendering late goals--probably a consequence of opening up play to try to catch up and their fitness late in the game. It's hard to say how they will improve this year. Their defence looked competent. Although SWE had almost all the shots in the game many were from outside the box and were off target. Stefan Avramovic earned the shutout for the White Eagles. He had a very easy night because the defenders Andre Orlando, Stefan Popovic, Vitomar Jelic (also the captain) and Vadym Zayarnyy kept the Astros shots to a minimum. Astros switched their goalies at 86 minutes with Erno Bostyan replacing Antal-Andras Toth. Forward Horvat Adalbert Horvat is the captain of the Astros. He is listed on the Ontario Soccer League website as being tied for the leading goal scorer in the South Region in 2012 while playing for Erin Mills Vasas. Alex B. was at the game filming video for future use. There may be hi-lites of tonight's game up on the CSL web site by Tuesday. Djuradj
Thanks for the report Robin! Just two quick corrections. It's actually Djordjije Strunjas and Vitomir Jelic. All the best!
sulfur
Kingston FC took their second win of the season today, downing SC Burlington 2-1 on two goals from Guillaume Surot (he's on 4 for the season now), one a penalty, and one a header through the GK's hands from close range. It was scoreless at halftime, and the game was quite scrappy (all told), with KFC being the stronger team. Nicholas Lindsay scored Burlington's goal and was easily the best player on the pitch at any given time during the game, and if Burlington had given him any support, the result could've been quite different. Blackdude
Kingston FC took their second win of the season today, downing SC Burlington 2-1 on two goals from Guillaume Surot (he's on 4 for the season now), one a penalty, and one a header through the GK's hands from close range. Is Surot going to transfer to Queens? He played at UQTR last year.
sulfur
Not that I've heard -- I would be surprised if he is transferring though. He's a very good fit with the KFC system, but I'm not completely certain that he would fit the Queen's system as much. But hey, you never know.
