AvroArrow
Has anyone ever seen or played or been associated with a team that gives up so many goals after the 85th minute? I was watching the game last night and the goal they gave up couldn't have been comically scripted any better by an SNL writer. At this point, some might start suspecting that some sort of criminal organization has gotten their hands on the team and was wagering heavily on goals after the 85th minute, but even they wouldn't be dumb enough to make it this obvious. I took the time to watch the game was interested in Clint Irwin and how he was doing in MLS just two years out playing 22 games for Ottawa in the CSL, and he did just fine. You could tell the goal was coming five minutes ahead .. Toronto lost it's shape and was playing bang ball like a u12 team with mom's and dads yelling Hoof it hoof it hard..... a real break down by Toronto in the last 15 and frankly they broke down from a not very well played game on both sides, Laba as the new midfielder is going to get very fustrated very fast with what he sees going on around him, hopefully he is going tough it out and help improve the side but right now .... I think he is wondering why he turned up in Toronto.
Soccerpro
Does anyone remember the last time TFC scored on a corner kick? For a team that is supposed to be hard to beat, and be well organized, corner kicks should be their bread and brother. These long throws form Richter are essentially corners, no success there either. It's right up there with Stefan Frei NEVER saving a single penalty shot (Milos Kokic saved on last year) It's clear TFC need improvements, the biggest area in need of improvement for me is their wingers. They add absolutely nothing wide, no offensive punch. When is the last time Lambe or Ephraim beat their man one on one and whipped in a good cross or ran at the defender into the box? Opposition just have to stack the middle of the park.
canucklefan
I remember TFC a few years ago, under the command of Cummins or Preki (I think it was Cummins). The team often conceded goals in the last 15 minutes. Now it's worse, it happens often after 90 minutes.
narduch
I don't think anything criminal is going on here. When you play the way TFC plays (route 1, kick and chase soccer), it tends to eventually bite you in the ass. The key to playing that type of style is to scoring a bunch of goals first. And when that doesn't happen (as is often the case) the eventual goal by the other team is a real dagger. The way TFC is playing I think they will eventually have an 6-0 type loss in league play as well (the upcomming San Jose game on Wednesday is a decent candidate). This team has 1 win in 9 games. A lot of faith has been put into Payne and Nelson. But what happens if they were the wrong choice? What if Payne is TFC's Bryan Colangelo? Sure, it was expected that a rebuild would take awhile, particularly with the mess Mariner left, but I'm not sure I am too happy with the playing style. Right now all TFC fans can do is hope that the playing style will improve once the players improve too. Plus Nelson is learning on the job. He needs to start doing a better job of managing his subs. MLSE has a new President now. He had no involvement in the hiring of Payne. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he may have his own guy in mind to run TFC. Payne will be given a fair shot, but he won't have years to fix this mess. It all feels like groundhog day.
rob.notenboom
It all feels like groundhog day. When is the part where the team starts playing the piano like a master and sweeps the fan base off its feet? 7pts from 9 games is 7 more than last year. It hasn't been pretty but it is still progress.

Its actually lower than the point per game pace they were on with Mariner in charge.

Instead of a late game collapse, a last minute winner would sure be nice though.
rob.notenboom
Oops they did it again. Painful. The 'worst team in the world' comment got mentioned in regards to the team as well. Darkly funny in a way.
jpg75
The fact that this continues to occur week after week, year after year is a disgrace.
