Trillium
With a Voyageurs Cup loss the fan base of TFC is silent on non-TFC sites. Has the Kool Aid effect for this team disapeared ? Have the hard core ( self described by TFC fans ) drifted away to support the Leafs, or Blue Jays exposing themselves to not being Footy fans but fans fo the latest marketing efforts of MLSE ? So where are the supporter group invocations to demand execellence with TFC ? What is truly going on with support for football in Toronto ? And yes there will be those who respond saying Troll, but seriously are these not questions Canadian Professional soccer needs to have an anser for ? TFC will not be involved in higher level club play in 2013-2014, they are not on a pace to make the play-offs at present, in Canada's lucrative south Ontario market are they relevant anymore or should NASL find a owner willing to go head to head for the true soccer fan vesus those who supported TFC cause it was the flavor of week ? There are tough questions to answer about what is going on in Toronto regarding pro-soccer, will it spiral down to being irrelevant if TFC is the only club in town ? Comments welcome bric a braks welcome, logical arguments hoped for.

El Hombre
I look forward to the TFC supporters who have demanded all of Canada support them in past years in the Champions League put their support behind Montreal of Vancouver for the next CL season. I don't remember too many TFC supporters that demanded such a thing. That's something usually mentioned by the unaffiliated. Maybe I'm missing something though. As to the original post, if you are looking for a logical argument, you'll need to present a logical case first. With a Voyageurs Cup loss the fan base of TFC is silent on non-TFC sites. If this site is the non-TFC site you are referring to, the fan base of TFC has been silent on here for a few years. Not really related to the loss last night. So where are the supporter group invocations to demand execellence with TFC ? Maybe they're on the TFC sites. Not sure why you expect them here less than a day after losing, or what that would actually accomplish with the environment around here. TFC as a club, outside of player movement, is not really discussed in all that much depth here anymore. No team really is. Mostly because this board is frequented by fans of rival teams and these discussions are generally fruitless. What is truly going on with support for football in Toronto ? You are seeing the result of years of losing. Not surprising. For a team that has had very little to cheer about for the last little while it's to be expected for any fan base to eventually become complacent. My question to you: Why are you holding TFC fans to a higher standard than other fans? Where are the Edmonton fans up in arms? Sure they're a division below but they were robbed in both games with bogus penalties and bogus red cards. Other than complaints that the CSA was in TFC's back pocket last year and caused a thunderstorm to cancel a game, where were the Whitecaps fans last year or the Impact fans for that matter? If you really want to have a discussion about the status of soccer fandom in Toronto, you might want to revisit your question. Your original post is dripping with bias and it's hard for anyone to take seriously as a jumping off point for a reasonable discussion. To me, it doesn't really matter one way or another. Just don't be surprised if no useful discussion pops up and try not to draw any type of conclusion from that other than the obvious.
narduch
More bull**** from Trilliuim.... Most TFC fans that use to post on this forum are tired of the douchebag trolls like you. That's why they don't post here anymore. Been driven out over the years because they are tired of the constant drivel like this thread.

For a team that has had very little to cheer about for the last little while it's to be expected for any fan base to eventually become complacent. Its not just the years of losing though. It also has to do with the years of abuse and arrogance from the front office. And it doesn't appear to be over. This was a comment made by TFC's Paul Beirne last night on twitter: Congratulations @JoeySaputo and @impactmontreal on advancing to the Final. Now do the right thing and keep that trophy in the east. How does that make a TFC fan feel after last night's debacle? ****ing stupid comment on his part. But he has always been an arrogant prick so its to be expected. Yes... let's cheer on our main rivals who just beat us 6-0 so we can keep the trophy in the east as if this is the ****ing hip hop industry in the 90s. I'll be cheering on Montreal but not because they're in the east. I think they're the best Canadian team to represent us in CONCACAF and they have much more Canadian content than Vancouver. Greatest Cockney Rip Off
they have much more Canadian content than Vancouver. Yep. That is what I am interested in seeing. Hopefully Montreal can make it to the CCL and give some of these young guys experience playing in places like Honduras, Panama and Mexico.
squizz1402635577
While this thread was started as a predictable and tiresome trolling effort, ted has raised a decent point. So... I'll be supporting whichever Canadian club makes it to this year's CONCACAF Champions League. I can't speak for anyone else, but hey, at least y'all know there's at least one of us. squizz1402635577
I do, however, feel irrationally compelled to respond to one point raised in the first post of this thread: The idea, held by some, that to be a "real" soccer fan you're somehow barred from passionately following other sports. It's a load of absolute BS, as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure there were folks at BC Place cheering and making noise last night who were also curious how the Canucks were doing, the same way there were surely people at Stade Saputo yetserday who are pumped up for the Habs game tonight. And there's not a damn thing wrong with that.
Keegan
Well we were "hardcore" enough to break a record and bring 3200 fans to Montreal coming off the worst season in team history but I guess that doesn't count. Only the interwebz.

TFCfan4life
What's the point of this thread? Why kick a dead horse? I will support any Canadian team in the champions league for reasons that they are in a competion TFC will not compete in this year and some international footballing pride needs to be restored to Canada. Nobody demanded that everyone else support TFC in previous champions leagues. Stop making that claim.

madmonte
I don't know. As my avatar indicates, I cheer for Canadian teams in general. Could care less. Also currently have a soft spot for DC United for obvious reasons. Whatever team is in the Champions League, I will watch them play and cheer for them unconditionally. Same goes for TFC throughout the season, will continue to follow them and cheer for them against American opposition.

Only the interwebz. But for yesterdays more important game there was only around 10 away fans and they were likely just some Torontonians who live in Montreal not traveling support. I suspect the first game away support was less about supporting the team and more about a group tourism trip to Montreal. With two of the largest supporters groups in MLS, the TFC fans could not even organize one bus for the match? That is pathetic and even more embarrassing than the score. Edmonton actually had a larger away support in Vancouver that TFC had in Montreal and that is twice the travel distance.

March game was an exception with plenty of hype, but not a norm

Edmonton actually had a larger away support in Vancouver that TFC had in Montreal and that is twice the travel distance. More important to who though? It should be more important to TFC supporters but the supporters groups seem to neglect it as you saw by our empty south end in the home leg. And obviously Nelsen and MLSE don't prioritize it over the league, so ya. I agree it IS without a doubt more important but things are FUBAR down in Toronto as you know. I can't speak for other TFC supporters but for me personally I was planning on going to Montreal again with 5 friends but I had two finals yesterday. I suspect many had work commitments and couldn't justify taking time off for a second trip to Montreal in 2 months. I'd imagine that if your supporters were in a similar situation (already travelled to Toronto plus watched the home leg the week before) you would have had less numbers for the midweek away match. Also, I'd bet that if TFC hadn't blown up the past 2 weeks in the league and won even ONE of those matches or even held on against NYRB, numbers would have been better. Try to understand the mess this club is Grizz. lol
