Olympique_de_Marseille
What Fifa says about WCQs: http://www.mail.com/int/sports/soccer/2001004-fifa-world-cup-qualifying-clean-fixing.html I think they are mostly right. But there has certainly been match fixing. Remember this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/international/9116168/Bahrains-10-0-Asian-zone-World-Cup-win-over-Indonesia-prompts-Fifa-match-fixing-investigation.html A clear case of fixing. Once again, instead of saying the truth, that WCQs are almost clean, they decide to come out and make false statements by dealing in absolutes. Stupid FIFA. Grizzly
Indonesia is a really bad team despite having played well against Bahrain historically so a 10-0 result is not inconceivable. Especially since a conflict between two leagues only one of which got certification from their federation led to many of their better players not being selected because they played in the uncertified league. Also previous to this game they had lost every other game in qualifying including a 4-0 loss to Qatar which was one of the reasons why Bahrain had a big goal differential to make up (the other reason being that Bahrain had lost 6-0 to Iran so this was not the only big score in the round). However, on watching the game highlight video it is hard not to conclude that the game was fixed. The ref sent off the Indonesian keeper in the 2nd minute for a foul in which there is minimal contact. He awarded 4 penalties to Bahrain and the two shown on the highlights seem to be clear dives with little contact. And the replacement keeper doesn't look like he is trying to stop the Bahrainian shots although surprisingly he did stop two of the penalties. The highlights are really worth watching. Here is the wiki on the game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahrain_10–0_Indonesia
Trillium
BBC soccer on CBC this morning talked about the lack of payment of players in Indonesia, and that the National Coach has not been paid for over six months.. program is a shambles, not fixed but perhaps corrupted at the executive level. madmonte
I think the point Olympique is making, though, is that clearly FIFA has thought there were signs in this campaign. And then they came out and contradicted themselves.
Olympique_de_Marseille
I think the point Olympique is making, though, is that clearly FIFA has thought there were signs in this campaign. And then they came out and contradicted themselves. That is exactly my point. +The fact that FIFA did make such a statement shows something disturbing, especially since there is a VERY obvious case of fixing that everybody can point to.
