"Strachan’s appointment might have been the result of a lack of imagination but it’s time for him to look beyond what’s directly before him, in a way the S.F.A. didn’t in naming him manager.

Quite simply, Scotland isn’t producing players equipped for the top level any longer, both in quality and quantity. It’s a rather fundamental problem and one that will prove challenging to solve. But the most effective way to accelerate any progress might be for Strachan to fast-track the young talent he has, as Vogts did."

I think the fact that it states that Vogts called up lots of youngsters to speed up their development is a lesson to us for NOT doing that. To my recollection Vogts was well hated by fans and it's not really done anything for them. They're in the same situation 10 years later so it clearly didn't work

You can blood young players. If fact most countries do. Waiting until they all pass U23 level can often be too late.

However normally you put them in as elements within an experienced squad.

What Bertie did was blood too many too soon and at almost the same time. Also they weren't that good.

Oh yeah, of course. I'm not saying we shouldn't play youngsters, I really want us to do it. But it shouldn't be done the way Scotland did it cause it will affect their mental side waaaaay too early if they lose lots. Of course they weren't that good, they're Scottish ;)
