Mark83
Would joining League 1 Ontario next year be beneficial to KW's goals in the long run? They'd technically be moving up a division from 4 to 3 and they'd obviously have to jump from amateur to semi-pro.

I think it would be great if both KW Utd. and FC London were to throw a men's team in L1O and use their USL PDL sides as reserves (or even move them to OPDL). I think again, if their thinking MLS/NASL, There would have to be a discussion of how to get to that level. USL Pro or USL PDL may be better, but really, no one knows right? coppercanuck
This is hilarious. The thought that any team can get into MLS is a ridiculous notion. NASL? Similar issues, population, stadium, territory. I still don't understand what the CSA's plan is for a top league in Canada. A copy of the PDL? USL Pro teams? Pump more money into the USSF so that Canada can get 25% of the NASL? More teams in a US academy system? Stand up and raise the flag. Enough. Get a Canadian only league, now. It doesn't even have to be a strong league, so long as it is financially viable (I suppose therein lies the big issue). There are plenty of countries with weak domestic leagues, but reasonably strong national teams. Give guys a chance to play (actually play, not just sit on the bench) at the highest level possbile and I think we'll see more progress to stronger leagues. I wish the CSA would also impose restrictions on foreign players for the V-Cup. I wonder if that would push the Canadian MLS teams to develop and use more Canadians. I think everyone would love that. Have you read the Easton Report http://issuu.com/rethinkmanagementgroup/docs/leaguesummary A lot of work and research went into this report detailing how Canada could improve it's development. There is a separate thread discussing this, and I would highly suggest that you take a look through there and also READ THE EASTON REPORT. It's pretty clear that Canada simply can't have it's own professional league that is financially viable, at least not right now. I would also suggest reading this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_soccer_league_system Where the top tier of Canadian Soccer is clearly defined as the MLS, which actually has CSA sanctioning. Basically, the CSA has no plan for a top league in Canada. Coles notes on the Easton Report if you haven't read or choose not to: Canada's plan for development should be in the form of a regional development league at Division 3 level, while MLS & NASL represent Canada's D1 & D2 levels in the pyramid. Currently there are no concrete plans for this D3 level to get started outside of League 1 Ontario, a Quebec Elite league potentially... but again nothing to report on that front. So NASL seems like the way for KW-United in my opinion if they plan on doing anything in the next few years.
Levi Oakey
They are now finally signing players! United signed Darrin Macleod (Drake Bulldogs Keeper, former TFC Academy) as well as Liam Collins (Irish player from Memphis Tigers). They also signed two Canadians to their women's team, Emily Brown and Emily Adamic. http://www.kwunitedfc.com/createarticle.php?ID=33 http://www.kwunitedfc.com/createarticle.php?ID=

Greatest Cockney Rip Off
TFC is cutting Camargo? He is still listed on the TFCA site, still has TFC player as part of his profile on twitter and played at the Dallas Cup for TFCA in March. But this is TFC, so most likely. Levi Oakey
Wow, those are relatively big names in Canadian soccer showing up in Kitchener. It's going to be quite the squad. Disappointingly, they have lost a lot. Apparently there is a reason they are out of contract. Tonight is the opening match, should be a good chance to show off. The squad is just coming together and finally has a few practices under their belt. They are playing River City Rovers, who were demolished 4-0 yesterday, so this should be an opportunity to show off a bit.

Levi Oakey
Sadly, you don't get much time in the USL PDL, but that's why we say they are struggling. We're just happy to be training some players for the national team. Great to see them live.
Levi Oakey
Won our first game last night. Evan James was clearly the best player on the pitch. Scored a brace and should have had a hat-trick with a penalty. I believe he also assisted the 3rd goal of the game. Here's a local article about it: http://www.therecord.com/sports-story/3414159-united-delivers-a-thriller/. Sergio Camargo is again mentioned as is Ashtone Bennett who looks like he will be coming in.

Levi Oakey
Big weekend for KW United. Canadian's playing a big role. Julie Karn led the United W-League team to a win against Quebec, their first of the season. Evan James was the Man of the Match and Captain for the Friday home opener. Scoring 2 goals. Sunday nights game versus the Fire had Adam Camillo scoring the first goal of the game with the Fire scoring in the 84th to tie it up. Tristian Grant came back and scored the winner in the 94th. Both games were excellent adverts for football in the region. Wednesday is the derby match versus FC London who have yet to lose.
dstyles11
anyone here have anymore info about this? http://www.sporting.pt/English/News/newsfut_eng_futscpcanadatour_200613_112638.asp Sporting is supposed to play "Kitchener Soccer Club" July 17th. I'm guessing its gotta be KW united, since they are probably the only club with a senior team in the area. Pretty big news for the club i would think? Can't find anything about it at this end though. munseahawk
Have not heard anything locally as of yet. It could be KW United or the CSL SC Waterloo Region. I've looked at both teams websites and there is nothing mentioned yet. I was actually coming in to post about the marketing efforts that I've been seeing from United. They have ads on several transit buses and merch in the window of one of the main soccer stores in town. Impressive for a 1st year club. After seeing the scarf in the store window last night, I'm leaning towards getting one.

The amount of fans haven't been what they were hoping for but that is hopefully building as well. Game day experience is great.
