Gian-Luca
Hopefully the first game for the new permanent coach (I hope so, because this is no doubt a pre-Gold Cup friendly)
Sam
Based on what we've heard about the CSA's agreement with Toronto I'd be very surprised if we had a home friendly pre-Gold Cup in Edmonton.
nolando
Is there anything west of Toronto though? Weird. LOVE the opponent. Need many more like thus over the next few years.
Obinna
Based on what we've heard about the CSA's agreement with Toronto I'd be very surprised if we had a home friendly pre-Gold Cup in Edmonton. I think pre GC friendlies should be in Western Canada. It only makes sense considering where our games will be played. Nice to see Edmonton get some action. Another friendly in Vancouver would be nice too. Is this really pre GC though? Doesn't it start in July? May 28th is a long way from July 7th or whenever it is suppose to start. RS
Based on what we've heard about the CSA's agreement with Toronto I'd be very surprised if we had a home friendly pre-Gold Cup in Edmonton. Why? The revised BMO Field agreement actually makes it much easier for the CSA to schedule elsewhere now.
madmonte
Man, it feels like we have more friendlies than any other year in memory. Last time Canada got knocked out of WCQ it was like they gave up for 2 years, excepting maybe Gold Cup.

Joe MacCarthy
These are the kind of games we need to spread around the country to increase the men's profile. If the top ranked teams have to play on turf so be it. But we can play some of the 30-100 ranked teams in Winnipeg, Vancouver, Ottawa, Hamilton and hopefully within a few years, Regina. RS
Wait - how is it revised? Originally the CSA had to schedule at least six national team games per year at BMO Field. The current agreement doesn't stipulate a minimum number of games per year, but instead incentivizes a higher total attendance for national team games at BMO Field over the course of a year. So if the CSA hits over a certain number of total tickets sold in a single year, it gets to keep a higher percentage of ticket revenue, concessions, etc.
squizz1402635577
To build on what Rudi said -- the CSA needs to sell a bare minimum of 16,000 tickets at BMO Field per year to avoid financial penalty (and there's financial incentive for them to sell more than that). Given that the WNT game v. the USA will almost definitely top the 16,000 mark, they're set for the year.
Sam
Okay so I take back what I said, this would be great if this game actually happened in Edmonton.

Nieuwland
It says on fifa.com that the game is on and in Edmonton. Is this still speculation?
Toje
It says on fifa.com that the game is on and in Edmonton. Is this still speculation? FIFA has made mistakes before... taken from FIFA... squizz1402635577
Word from the CSA right now is a no comment. Not a "no", but a "no comment".
Cheeta
Wha...???? The sooner we get a yea or nay the better. Might be able to get the last week of May off work. But I need to know, like, yesterday.
stevensandor
Everyone, not worth another story from me yet, but I do know this. May 28, Commonwealth is booked. It's a public facility so the city has to say yea or nay in terms of it being available. But, the City has officially told me it cannot confirm the event for May 28, and then referred me to call the CSA.

Lord Bob
JESUS CHRIST HOW THE **** AM I GOING TO GET TO THIS?! Between the Voyageurs and Gold Cups I've basically used all my love at work up but it is physically impossible for me to not go to a Canada match at Commonwealth, like my heart will burst out of my chest and fly across the Rockies by itself if it has to. theaub
Frankly if you're not there I'm pretty sure the CSA is going to put every single game in Toronto for eternity
Obinna
Yeah, this is your chance Lord Bob. This was the CSA's way of saying "I am sorry". You better accept their apology and attend!
