shermanator
Update on Alderson from John Molinaro. My own belief would be that he is released due to being behind Koffie, Laba and Teibert in midfield John Molinaro@JohnMolinaro16 mins16 minutes ago Just spoke to Bryce Alderson. Said 'Caps have made a decision about him (he's out of contract) & that club announcement will come soon #VWFC
Barthez-Battalion
Another Canadian talent not given an opportunity by Vancouver. Business as usual. He is one of the players who would benefit from us having our own league.
Levi Oakey
This is disappointing, but not unexpected. Halfway through this year it became clear was considered below even Piraux. I think he has basically been looking for a club the last 4 months. Definitely needs a mid-tier club to attend to. Edmonton or Ottawa looking for a quality ball playing central midfielder? Former Canada U20 and U17 Captain.
jpg75
He has an English passport, right? He's still eligible to play for an EPL U21 side this season.
shermanator
Not sure about Edmonton, their midfield is pretty full. They still have Ritchie Jones at DM and a pretty solid midfield with Nonni, Laing and Raudales occupying the other 3 spots. Not to mention signing Tomas Grannitto from El Salvador. king1010
Wow. Vancouver hates canada. Ridiculous Where does he go from here? Another MLS team and then loaned out to one of the newly established USL sides? NASL team? San Antonio is coached by a Canadian. Would be nice if there was some news on that Hamilton NASL team. tmcmurph
Yea the Caps hate Canadians that is why they sign them to 100k contract. Give it a rest. Not given a chance? At what? Oh the infamous first team minutes. Sorry to point this out to you but he is below Laba, Koffie & Teibert (a Canadian!). What do you want? Give Laba back to TFC so we can have him for 3rd string DM instead of 4th? Sheesh. I was hoping he'd stick around for the USL Pro but if he wants to move on then I wish him well. Maybe his agent did him in by scoring such a large contract for him? They can sign 2 for the price of one. Maybe they have other players who are better coming up? No it has to be that the Caps hate Canadians. You guys are a laugh.

Your dripping sarcasm is pathetic as is the bashing of the Caps with the pathetic line "xyz was never given a chance". Like being signed to a 100k contract and practicing in a pro environment daily. That never happens for Canadians in Vancouver.

Former Canada U20 and U17 Captain. I think NASL is a 1 way ticket to mediocrity, whereas at 20yo I think he's MLS ready. He's just been stuck behind a glut of (also young) talent at VWC. I think the best fit for Alderson would be an MLS side with a serious void at the DM position. Especially if Canadians count as domestics in the USA next year. If he doesn't want to take a pay cut though, he'll have to look to Europe. Hopefully he's already been doing that through his agent, and has something lined up. TFC07
Hopefully TFC sign him and put him in their USL Pro team. He's still young enough to develop and upside is there for Alderson to become a good MLS player.

This is a goddamn travesty. Agree with this actually... I personally think he's got way more upside than Russell at DM... high work rate, accurate passer, high soccer IQ, and gets stuck in like it's nobodies business. If they Dasovic was still with the Quakes he would be saying "piss off everyone, he's ours!... thank you very much!"
shermanator
TFC could use a DM to overtake Warner's garbage play, just saying.

Pretty sure Teibert won't be seeing any time next season since Robbo has a hard on for playing Laba and Koffie both until they're exhausted. tmcmurph
If it makes you guys feel better they also released Salgado so there is now an opening at forward for any player who has the skills to take it. Maybe Clarke? We shall see. Alderson may be a jewel but and some may thing he is better than Teibert but that's not the way the coaches saw it. It may turn out to be a mistake but time will tell. Russell was 3rd for DM but 2cd to Rosales on RM and 2cd to Fernandez on LM. If Fernandez doesn't return that opens up a spot that he plays. That is one reason I can see keeping Teibert over Alderson. Flexibility. He has shown very well at 3 different midfield spots.

Like being signed to a 100k contract and practicing in a pro environment daily. That never happens for Canadians in Vancouver. If there's one thing I hate it's dripping sarcasm. Alderson rode himself out of town plain and simple on the backs of horrible first team and international appearances. Like I get that he was pretty good going up against Michael Bradley for two matches but honestly if you're gonna start for Vancouver in midfield you need to put up at least one goal every other game. shermanator
He was clearly behind 2-3 others at DM and it was always going to be hard to ,crack the 11. That said, it is a damn shame that Alderson didn't get a single minute in MLS, and he rotted on the bench (or more accurately, in the pressbox) for a whole year. We heard all year that he was going to be given a shot, and IMO, he did not get that. There have been posts here stating that he refused a loan this year, where did that rumour come from exactly? I haven't been able to find any legit media source that has stated this?

Alderson is out of contract with the Major League Soccer club, and the Whitecaps have decided not to pick up its option on the 20-year-old native of Kitchener, Ont. tmcmurph
It is not always the first team you play at that you make your mark at. Lots of promising players have been released who then went on to be regulars at other teams higher up the standings. Just look at TFC. I wonder if the release of a 100k player opens up the door for two 50k Canadian players from their academy?
