PARADINHA Outlawed?

Bare with me here all but was watching MTL-TFC and when TFC was given a penalty kick and i saw it's execution i realized wasn't that banned at the World Cup in South Africa? Also TFC executed the same style of penalty vs. Sporting KC by the same player......

I mean a penalty kick already is hard on a goalie but to do a Stop and Go is a bitch since the goaltender will have jumped into whatever corner already.

Watch this little video and then the penalties below:

http://theoriginalwinger.com/2010-05-19-rule-changes-ahead-of-fifa-world-cup-paradinha-outlawed-and-fourth-official-has-more-power

The rule change is a reaction to the growing number of players, particularly in South America, now using so-called feints, or Paradinha, to deceive the opposition. In an announcement made at a meeting of the International Football Association Board (IFAB), chaired by FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Tuesday, those who halt just before kicking the ball will receive a yellow card for “unsporting behavior”.

Players may also be forced to retake the penalty if the ball goes into the net.

“Feinting in the run-up to take a penalty kick to confuse opponents is permitted, however feinting to kick the ball once the player has completed his run-up is now considered an infringement,” FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke told a press conference held at the organizations headquarters in Switzerland.

The ammendment to the penalty rule will be implemented on June 1, just 10 days before the start of the World Cup. But Valcke insists this is enough time.

Meanwhile the IFAB have also decided to grant further powers to the fourth official.

Normally over seeing subsitutions, off-pitch incidents and match management, the fourth official will now be able to assist the referee with issues arising on the pitch.

The IFAB also agreed to extend the Europa Liga experiment of having four assistant referees on the pitch as a replacement for goal line technology.

Football leagues across the world will now be able to try out the idea over the next two seasons before any decision on whether it is made compulsory are made.

1st penalty by Earnshaw vs Sporting KC:

2nd penalty by Earnshaw vs Impact http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2013-03-16-MTL-v-TOR/highlights/213786

After watching the little video and the 2penalty kicks by Earnshaw what do you think? Fair and Square penalty kick? I used to watch a lot of South American soccer and paradinha is nothing beautifull to me at least. Some don't care as long as their team scores and wins. But I will leave judgment to you guys, maybe JDV could state what he think of that.

That is ridiculous. Feinting and gamesmanship and deception have always been a key part of any team sport and essential athletic skills. If the players have discovered ways to make PKs too easy, move the spot further away from goal.

A PK is tough for a keeper? That's the idea. Their team has conceded a free kick inside the area - it is meant to be tough for the keeper to save!

Next would you mind starting a petition to stop players from shooting too hard when close to the goal? Perhaps, players can only score with their heads when inside the 18 yard box. I mean, players can kick the ball really hard!

Won't somebody please think of the children?

You are talking about something very different. You are talking standing above the ball, moving your leg as if to kick it and then moving your leg again to actually strike the ball. Earnshaw is pausing on his run and then finishing. The 'fluid movement' is not redone.

The reason you don't see it at the top levels is because top level keepers are not fooled by it and most players do not have enough power without a fluid run up to beat a keeper capable of choosing the right corner. Earnshaw is exploiting the lower-level keeper. Shameful...?

Neutral observer here. I thought both should have been disallowed. The whole PK routine is about who can cheat the best. The kicker with the balks or the keeper coming off the line early.

I'm in favour of simplifying it. As soon as the striker takes a step the keeper can leave his line. This would drastically shorten the ridiculous run ups we are seeing and I've yet to see many keepers called for coming off their line early but they all do. Soccer seems to reward cheating more than other sports. That is a problem with the diving and PKs.

By the way both Dunfield and Felipe sould have been carded for embelishment IMHO. The "Dunfield dive" and "Felipe flops" were quite comical.

-- Fainting/deception sure but I would say there should be rules once you go you can't stop, no? Move the spot further away? Didn't even come to mind

-- You missing the point completely

You also mean Bernier's penalty? Or this isn't actually about the rule but Earnshaw scoring.

-- I didn't see Bernier's I only say bits a pieces of some MLS games, nothing specific to Earnshaw just that I saw him do it twice that all and it struck me.

-- PARADINHA means "little stop" not hovering above the ball, doesn't it? Sure Earnshaw does a Stop and Go, and he is exploiting lower-level keeper...

Watch Bernier at 2:20mark http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L6XYM3NFav8&feature=related

I just don't want to see the whole MLS league doing their PK's in that manner, that all maybe it's just me that it bothers

As long as you don't completely stop it's legal. Both players stuttered, they didn't stop their motion completely.

I was discussing this with a friend and if the keepers did their homework it's actually an advantage to them. Bernier and Earnshaw have both done this move in the past plenty of times, so if you know it's coming what advantage do they have? They have the disadvantage of losing power... you wait one of them is going to look like a fool one day.
