Costa Rica pulls out of hosting U17 WWC - can we step in?

At work so I don't want to pull up a link, but I saw a tweet earlier saying CR has pulled out of hosting the 2014 U17 WWC. I know the CSA would probably tut at organizing something on such short notice, but why not? Someone has to do it, and it would be a great warm-up for the big show in 2015. The U20 womens tournament we had 12 years ago or so went swimmingly.

We won't host it. It's too cold in March.

Not in Vancouver and Victoria. Games at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC Place in Vancouver, Centennial Stadium in Saanich, and Royal Athletic Park in Victoria. Semifinals at RAP and BC Place, final at BC Place. Sorted. Could do it tomorrow.

(I mean, you're right, we won't host it, but we totally could.)

Ya, a "BC only" bid could work, but they would expect more from us if we volunteered to host. Although the schedule says it's for the spring, the date could get bumped; the last U-17 WWC was in mid-september to mid-october.

A Victoria/Vancouver bid would be a cut below the usual facilities for a U-17 World Cup, but they'd probably be adequate and they'd certainly be fine by emergency host standards. I'm not saying we'd be the best emergency host, that FIFA would want to give it to us, that moving the schedule would be impossible, etc. etc., just that it could physically be done in March.

Stadia in place, they are trying to build the women's game, they have ability to present the tournament with little trouble and the Olympic tourney gave England a taste for the women's game beyond what existed before.

CONCACAF executive has to take responsibility for this failure, they knew they had a weak Federation President in Costa Rica who could not drive the necessary political decisions to get the money flowing and stadia upgraded.

^ Well, I wasn't going to bang that particular drum, but yes stadia in place and a groundswell of interest are the women's game is strong. Note the restructuring (again) to align the top2 divisions is on the cards at present.

I'm not sure but I think the FA may have something like a standing order from FIFA to cover Tournaments if requested. I also thing one or two other countries do as well.

Would love to see the CSA get a bunch of Canadian players over for tryouts in women's summer league and some for next yers winter league, the Women's leagues in England may not match Germany, but i think a lot of Canadian players can get in on the programs and succeed.

I am not sure if the leagues have defined criteria for elegible players based on origin, I think its still open.

Not sure it's a good idea if we do host it. Wouldn't that lead to "World Cup burnout" by the time we host the 2015 WWC?

The U-17 WWC mostly appeals to the hardcore and the kids who just want to see a good game, I think. I can't see how there'd be burnout; there wouldn't be enough attention given to justify it, what with the tournaments being spaced a year apart each. Unless of course Canada did something special, in which case it would increase rather than decrease enthusiasm.

Well, as trailed earlier the FA have apparently got their sh*t together and will launch their 28 team Two division league: Promotion and Relegation next year. Notably, no Manchester United or Spurs as of yet.

Come a long way from John Terry buying the Chelski Ladies a full set of tracksuits..."Normally he gets away with half a larger or a babycham" (Joke)

Kind of give the impression to FIFA that the FA has finally switched on regarding the women's game.

Lord Bob, To what I heard on the beeb, Everton have signed three Americans and a Finnish player so how that works for Canadians would probably be as open.

My daughter played two years ago for the Hannover 96 Ladies team. They were fully sponsored by the home club. All their kit (except shoes and shin guards) were provided by the Men's team. All fees where taken care of and they even had a paid training camp at a spa in the Czech Republic.
