Johnathan Osorio

I thought I would start making player threads for all of the new Canadian kids coming into MLS.

The story so far:

Osorio is a central midfielder developed by the Clarkson-Sheridan club in Mississauga who arranged a loan/trial with Club Nacional in Montevideo, Uruguay. After spending some time on their roster he came back to Ontario and played with SC Toronto in the CSL. This lead to a trial with TFC in the 2013 pre-season which was successful enough for him to be signed to a MLS contract. He also has some Canadian U-20 caps.

Not an academy product yet in all the interviews or anything regarding him they're claiming he was a product of the academy. Funny.

The club really likes to upsell its Academy.

Especially because the hardcore fans eat it up.

I'm excited about this signing. Hopefully he gets a fair chance and can prove himself.

Thanks for clearing that up, I couldn't understand because in his own versions of events he didn't spend much time at TFC. It is too bad he couldn't spend a bit more time with Nacional (whatever the issues were to be worked out) but from the very little I've seen I can see why TFC was interested. I just hope he isn't wasted!

It is more than in the past, while the TFC has been good at giving young players a chance in the starting line-up, the general ****-show around them has been less then helpful for their player development. A player like Plata regressed at TFC, Attakora didn't get better because of his on-field time (though there seems to have been other issues) either. It's just a concern, but I'm hopeful. He looks like a kid who loves the ball at his feet and has confidence - it will be interesting to see when under the lights he can pass the ball to the forwards/striker.

He stands out pretty prominently in the SC Toronto NY Astro's game last year:

skip ahead to 1:05 to go straight into the highlights and he answers a couple questions immediately after the second half highlights.
