madmonte
Right now my vote still goes to Brody Huitema of Vancouver Whitecaps U-18. The guy has been a goal scoring machine since he was 13, crushed it at U-18 last year, and already has 3 goals in 2 games this year.
Lord Bob
Right now my vote still goes to Brody Huitema of Vancouver Whitecaps U-18. The guy has been a goal scoring machine since he was 13, crushed it at U-18 last year, and already has 3 goals in 2 games this year. 19 goals in 16 USSDA U-18 games, including three this past weekend against the Galaxy and Chivas academies. Big, talented, can hold the ball up, can strike it venomously, and just keeps raising his game at higher and higher levels. I'm inclined to agree with your praise. He's one of those guys which has people mumbling sadly that he's too good to take a $44,000 MLS contract.

youllneverwalkalone
Anything the club wants to offer. But to stay "off-budget" the maximum salary in 2012 was $44,000. Unless the player signs a Generation Adidas contract. The club can have up to two HG players at a time on these contracts. They can pay them more than $44k, and they remain off budget. Brody is reportedly a very good student. I don't think his decision to go to US college is football related.
ThiKu
Huitema was a goal scoring machine long before 13.
madmonte
Huitema was a goal scoring machine long before 13. lol fair enough! Anyone got someone else they think is as promising or more promising than Brody?
MastaK
I don't follow enough all of the academies to have a good judgment over this but I've always thought Maxime Crépeau had great potential. He's been really spectacular the few times I've seen him play with the Académie. Hasn't done as good with national teams but hopefully that will change soon. ThiKu
I have to wonder how Huitema hasn't been getting more national team call-ups!?
madmonte
Update. 3 games to go in the season, and Huitema now has 25 goals in 21 games, for a team that is top in the league.
ThiKu
Yet gets no press....certainly not compared to the lads like Clarke and Alderson when they were in the u18 side.

Ivan
^ As does Chad Bush - assuming it's the former TFCA and U17/20 keeper.
madmonte
Okay, so I guess we need to create a little grassroots buzz...which often starts right here

madmonte
Top Drawer Soccer has always been very positive on Huitema. http://www.whitecapsfc.com/news/2013/06/whitecaps-fc-residency-teams-wrap-ussda-regular-season-against-crossfire-premier Huitema gets his 26th goal of the season. Stats aren't fully in yet. Huitema currently leads the USSDA nationwide in goals. That's all teams all divisions. Some teams have a couple games left to play, but he is basically guaranteed top 3 in the nation, and probably will finish as the nation's top scorer. He's committed to Duke University. http://ussda.demosphere.com/Top10/U17-18/index_E.html Note: He missed a few games in March/April due to a wrist injury that was thought (at the time) would keep him out for the rest of the season. In terms of goals per game he is way ahead of the competition. Click the link above.
ThiKu
Yet we hear nothing about a possible HG signing for Huitema, or a Fisk-like sign-loan deal.
Ivan
According to Thomas Rongen, 16 year old centreback Elias Roubos is now playing with Danny Dichio's senior academy team (Under 21) in the OSL.
maccaliam
Has Huitema ever even had a sniff of a national team call-up at any youth age? The only time I've ever heard his name mentioned is by VWFC supporters.
Lord Bob
Huitema went to a Canadian U-18 camp late last year, as I recall, but I think that's about it.

The one thing Canada needs...scoring. They should be riding this guy's jock until it bleeds.
