For those who follow lesser known leagues...

Obviously, I follow soccer here in the Czech Republic. My club is Hana Prostejov, who currently play in the 6th tier. Nothing special, but great entertainment and cheap beer. I've been following them for 5 years now, and since that time they have been promoted from the 8th tier to the 6th. They are struggling in their new league this year, and have to win a few games when the season begins to avoid relegation. They have no support from the city, and have lost a few of their best players because of 'politics'. The other side in Prostejov is SK Prostejov, and they have basically bought their way up the pyramid over the past few years. They purchased a license of a 4th division club two years ago, and now look good to win the 3rd division. They are what is wrong with soccer.

I also follow soccer in Macedonia. Unfortunately, the team I support, Belasica Strumica are now in the 3rd division. That means it is nearly impossible to find up to date information. They are traditionally a strong club, and played a number of years in the 1st division.

What are the clubs or leagues do other people follow?

I really do think FIFA should have a rules about investing (buying) more than on club in any one Association.

I know its not allowed under FA rules, but as you note it is allowed in the Czech Republic. And Obviously we have a rather less that satisfactory situation with Traffic in the NASL, although this is apparently not something they want to continue with, but would rather want to sell their interest in all but the strikers.

As for keeping an eye on another League... Adelaide United for me. Has been since I lived their and watched them at Hindmarsh in 2007/2008.

My closest "local" Local team was Norlunga United who played in the South Australian State League

The purchase of licenses seems to happen every year in the Czech Republic. It is something that has to be stopped.

I try to watch a few A-League games a month. I enjoy watching Perth Glory, but I don't really support them. For me, the A-Leauge is quite interesting to watch because I see a lot of the MLS in the league.

I don't know a lot about the lower leagues in Australia, but I had a quick read about the league Noarlunga United play in. Did you ever go watch them play?

Yep, At that Level it is alittle bit like a rec league.

But the further up you go say to the Blue Eagles then you watching in a 6000 capacity arena. Probably with about 60 other fair minded souls, so it still fairly Semi-pro to say the least. The picture shows a pavilion but the pitch is flanked on all four sides with concrete terreces hence the calculation for 6000.

A lot of australia sports have followed NA models the AFL for Instance has an Unbalance League system, they even play games out of state with Hawthorn almost a De-facto Tasmanian team.

Many South Australians refuse to watch in favour of the SANFL state league.aussie footy fans are very possesive of their clubs. Glenelg for example is not in the AFL but draws good crowds for state games against the likes of Norwood which is only across town.

Norwood Oval is of a size that was considered by Adelaide United as an alternate , if they had not sorted out the finance agreements with the city over the Use of Hindmarshpost-4137-139465254826_thumb.jpg

What is the promotion and relegation like in Australia? I know there isn't any direct promotion to the A-League (I think), but what about in the various regional leagues?

Back in the Czech Republic, Plzen won 3-0 away to Napoli in the Europa League on Thursday. Plzen are a quality side, although I think most people didn't expect them to get a win in Italy.

The first division starts up again next weekend. I still have to wait 6 more weeks until my local side plays a league game. Good thing is that they have a friendly coming up in two weeks.

Can only comment on SA here.

They do Promote and relegate through the State divisions.

A-league however is very firm with the financial stability of the Clubs elected into it.

If you don't pull the Punters you'll be gone, as was the case with North Queensland.

The Licences are pretty much fluid and reviewed each year; reallocated, as needs require so at times it looks to some as if Promotion /relegation exist.

The FFA no doubts wants expansion teams but only when truly viable.

That been said, If North Queensland could put together another set up with a firmer financial base I think they would be required to compete at the state level first. Hence the fury's reformation a year later.

I'm Pretty sure South Melbourne Red would be able to give a more in depth answer for Victoria.

My local side, Hana Prostejov (6th tier), played their first match in 4 months (just a friendly though) against an 8th tier side called Vicemilice. Hana won 3-1 on a bitterly cold evening.

The Macedonian 1st division kicked off this weekend after a winter break. There has been heavy rain in some parts of Macedonian, which led to the flooding of a few 1st division stadiums.

Northern Mariana Islands have made in their FIFA international debut (not full members) in the AFC Challenge Cup. A few days ago they lost 6-0 to hosts Nepal. These are the highlights from the game against Palestine today.
