alberta white
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21335331 "Reports suggest Liverpool's 1-0 home win over Debrecen in the Champions League group stage in 2009 is one of the 680 games under suspicion. However, there is no suggestion of wrongdoing by the Anfield club. " One could see how this pattern fits with what we heard about the CSL. This been that a lesser know club that flies a little below the radar, where players / officials may be tempted finacially may well be the target for the fixers. From http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/espnfcunited/id/3203?cc=5901 So this guy fixed both games, which Debrecen, presumably, lost? Not quite. The allegation was that Poleksic had agreed to favor the "overs", that is, allow as many goals as possible, a popular bet in the Asian betting markets. He "succeeded" against Fiorentina (Debrecen lost, 3-4); less so against Liverpool (despite his alleged "compliance," it finished 1-0 to the Reds). Now if a overs bet is very popular in the Asian markets what would an over bet of 8 to 1 produce as betting result ?

Now if a overs bet is very popular in the Asian markets what would an over bet of 8 to 1 produce as betting result ? They had no evidence that Poleksic threw the game or accepted the bribe and no evidence of him getting paid. They only had evidence that he was contacted by someone trying to bribe him and did not report it. I find a two year ban pretty harsh for that especially since anyone contacted by mafia figures would have some legitimate fears about reporting it. And as much as this is a serious problem and I have also been at some games in Germany that were later shown to be fixed, some of the police elements seem to be wildly exaggerating the figures based on little evidence. It also makes me uneasy to hear totally corrupt organizations like FIFA and UEFA investigating corruption. And if the police bodies investigating this can find out so much about organized crime's involvement in the game, why can they not investigate the blatant corruption in FIFA and UEFA? Anyway here are the highlights of the two games in question. The goals seem pretty legit to me as do the results. Indeed I am more surprised that Debrecen managed to score 3 goals against Fiorentina then the 4 goals by the Italian side. Below is an article about how the ban has affected the keeper's life. Good on Debrecen to stick by him though. If anyone in authority really wanted to stop corruption and rigging in soccer then Sepp would have been jailed years ago! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/champions-league/9854183/Debrecen-goalkeeper-Vukasin-Poleksic-wishes-that-he-had-joined-Portsmouth-before-scandal-struck.html Highlights of Liverpool game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJT9hwfC9kk Highlights of Fiorentina game are here: http://soccerblogvideo.blogspot.ca/2009/10/debrecen-3-4-fiorentina-mutu-double.html
alberta white
Those comments on the Liverpool game Video, are almost offensive. First comment "makes not attempt" that's because he's caught flat footed. Save against kyutt. Is low close and hard. That's actually a good save. . Talk about Tin hat tomfoolery. Jeeze some People! Its like the Ghrobbelar case when the barrister stated that Bruce "tried to dive out of the way of the ball and inadvertently made a wonderful save."
