This might be a small positive (and undercut by the fact that Denmark had made subs and weren't pressing as hard toward the end) but I thought the young boys subbed on for the vets without a noticeable let down in performance ... in fact they did a bit better.

Rebuilding is likely going to be long and painful but I think I would rather see the young lads on the field instead of Dunfield and Ricketts who are giving us nothing right now. I like those guys but I simply don't think they are doing anything for us and a similarly skilled 18yr old in their position has more upside.

Yea that was less than I had hoped for but I'm not suicidal over it. Perhaps that is because of the reduced expectations I now have since our drubbing in Honduras. PS. I've still got a full head of hair despite following the MNT since the early 1980s. Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and go for a walk.

Cheers everyone.

Let's not get too down about this game and take away from it what we can, even finding out that someone is NOT NT quality is useful information, and to know that, sometimes you have to witness it in a match.

Positives: Teibert looks good. If he can just get some playing time in MLS, he'll be a nice addition to the team. Similarly, Bekker looked pretty good.

Poor, and worse than I had hoped for and expected. I don't disagree with the sentiment it isn't the end of the world, and these boys were set-up to fail based on who was called vs this level of opposition. Silly choice of opposition knowing who would be available for a camp at this time of year.

Still disappointed though, as I feel we could have used this camp as something much more productive than being that minnow who gets crushed for the benefit of preparing the Danish NT and the American NT for their upcoming WCQers.

Denmark were better than I thought they would be, I thought it would be a fairly even match but it looked like men against boys at times, wait a minute, that's what it was! I'm glad we played the match, we were better in the second half but over-matched, I thought Bekker looked good and am excited about him at TFC! There's no need to get too down about this result, the rebuild has begun and as others have said, it will take some time! I'm still looking forward to the match vs the US on Tuesday!

Agreed. Evan James had a few nice moments. Would like to see him what he can do in a full game.

Yeah, it really looked like they were trying to get minutes for everyone who is out of contract. What else can you expect, especially in the off season for essentially our entire team. If one or two of these guys lands a job, it's another positive to take away.

Ugh, the only difficult thing for me is that I live in the U.S. and having to listen to Americans make fun of our team will make me want to punch someone ... especially since they won't understand the concept of a team trying to "look at some young players". So, I'll have to watch that match alone, and not look at any ESPN highlights or articles.

I don't see any reason to be manic depressive, but I'm not sure what positives come out of this. The CSA should already have a good enough view of it's players as it is where it can determine if they are worth bringing to camp or not. Sending staff around to scout players is a cheaper proposition than calling an experimental squad.

I don't think the way this was handled was very admirable. We called in a rookie squad, trained hard enough to hurt a player or two (including one with a pending tryout), and we ended by playing a fixture in which we weren't competitive. We can't expect to develop these players, so I'm not sure what they are trying to take from this.

+1.

The National Program is not about developing talent. That is left upto the clubs.

That was too bad. Teibert looked good, but I would say that. Thomas made some very spry saves. Porter was typical Porter, which was dangerous until he got clattered a little bit. Morgan looked good. Bekker looked better than I expected. Henry, Attakora, Henry, Ledgerwood, and especially ****ing Henry got just destroyed. I know Henry is young and wasn't in his best position but good god, the kid just got obliterated.

Making Ledgerwood captain after Dunfield cme off was presumably Colin Miller's little joke.

Pitch was very poor. Danish support was good. As to the Canadian support, nice to meet El Hombre but in spite of my best efforts we didn't get into any fistfights over Rob Friend.

Somebody said that some of these new guys play at a high level in their club. What happens is that they perform better because they play with far better players in their club. But here they get reduced to the lowest level of the lowest player. The ending result is what we saw!

Throwing these guys into the deep end like this seems like a bad idea. After the 3rd goal Jakovic just looked defeated, Bekker looked over at him with a kind of confused expression and all I could think was "don't worry, you'll get used to this." Even if Denmark's playing a reserve XI, we need a stronger squad. I know we complain if the CSA doesn't schedule friendlies, but why play them if we're not going to call up players good enough to prevent a blowout?

I think any rational US fan who follows the game will realize this is hardly a top level Canadian side...on the same token its not a top level US side either...although to be fair the US team isn't quite the young squad the Canada squad is.....

I do expect a much better effort from Canada on Tuesday...they'll play the US tough and gain some confidence I think

I am not convinced this was even the B Team version of our best young players, but I suppose at this point it is hugely difficult to even say who our top 18 young players are. If we set the age limit at 25, then who would you guys put on the top 18?

Borjan

Chencinski*

Thomas/Stillio/JLL/Crepeau/Roberts/Smit/Montislav/Misiewicz/Irving… whichever lands a starting job by then.

Def:

Morgan

Henry

Edgar

Jakovic*

Hainault*

de Jong*

Frensenga

Straith

Attakora

Peters

Mid:

Hutchinson*

Johnson

Simpson

Tiebert

Alderson

Piette

Saiko

Bekker

Others: Aleman, Stinson, Gyorio, Cararo, Davies, Di Chara

FW:

Jackson

Ricketts

Cavillini

REB

Haber

* = Over 25yrs old but likely still around and playing an important role in 4yrs.

Currently in CMNT camp

Tomer's going to play for Israel, and I would at least think of Clarke ahead of Haber, but other than that a good list.

Ya I thought of adding Clarke, and I agree that we most likely have missed our chance with Tomer, and unlike others we only have ourselves to blame as until now he probably would have been more than happy to get a call fom the Nats.

I don't think anyone here needs to be convinced we have a few better players than the ones we put on the field today. That being said, there's a lot of irrelevance on that list. There are guys listed who have not logged a single minute as professionals or have struggled when they have played at the pro level. It's just creating the illusion that we have more options than we do.

Bringing so many inexperienced players to camp is a waste of time. The coaching staff should have enough of a filter to get that list down to the top 25% before hand. Those guys, when inserted into a proper lineup stand a reasonable chance of contributing something to the MNT. When you're talking about the bottom half of a group of people who are already inexperienced, their chance of success is incredibly small. CSA has a limited budget, we only see the field so many times, we should focus on doing things that are likely to be productive for our team.

I can only imagine the impression this camp made on some of our young players, I don't think it's the "international football is hard, we better buckle-up!" story that some people are trying to sell.

Well realistically you have to have known the point going into this match wasn't to beat Denmark but to get a look at who may be future guys for our CMNT. We are always talking about "call up this guy" and "call up that guy"

So they called up as many new guys as they could to get a look for who they might call up again!

The point here was never to try and compete, I feel. Or if it was, it was a secondary point.
