Rod Proudfoot becomes FC Edmonton’s new GM

Recommended Posts

On a slightly related topic, both Fath and Proudfoot, as well as CSA reps were in front of the City today.

Big news is that they are really pushing for a stadium to be developed. Options were Telus (reconfigured baseball stadium, not near any public transit), revamping Clarke (current stadium), or finding a new place. The option of tarping off Commonwealth was presented, but I don't see that gaining much traction.

Interesting and really nice to see the new GM hitting the ground running, going after the city, and showing sports fans that they're here to make a serious long term run at this.

Key aspect to all of the above is for FCE to fill Clarke's 5000 seatson a regular basis.

Which, notwithstanding the fact it s ahockey town, can be a hard sell to Edmontonians regardless. Even though the Indoor Soccer complexes are filled out such that there is a shortage of Indoor court space; and the "Mini world Cup" has crowds hanging from the rafters,. The mental connection between the game the kids and a hell of a lot of grown up play is worth $20 to watch at a pro level is not firing yet.

Problem aparently is that many of the false starts for game in the city have the Edmonton General Public suspicious and apathetic towards Pro Soccer in Alberta. Many still think the Club will leave the city as soon as it gets any traction. Even though the Owner is Local and Independent (and not a consortium looking only at the bottom line) Many are angry that there tax dollars are going towards the reno's at Clarke, even though Tom Fath and the club have paid for them.

Some even ask the question, "hey seen as though the Oilers are leaving Rexall why dont they play in there?"

Plus with a dominant hockey press and a TV sports media that basically not allowed to mention NASL, Methiks it gunna be a hard sell!

So any V who has the ability to let family /fiends in the west who might want to know what happening, Encourage them to get down to Clarke field and perhaps get them to well, not so much taste the soup, but to at least butter the bread roll?
