DJT
The First Stage is two groups of five teams, each playing a round robin. The top three teams in each group advance to the Final Stage, which is one group of six teams playing a round robin, with the top four teams qualifying for the U20 World Cup in Turkey in June-July. The First Stage has just finished. Incredibly, both Argentina and Brazil have already been eliminated. Argentina will miss the U20 World Cup for the second time in three tournaments, and Brazil will miss it for only the second time ever (other time was in 1979) -- the two of them have combined to win 11 of the 18 U20 World Cups. This is Brazil's worst finish in the CONMEBOL U20 Championship since 1975; in fact, they've won the last three tournaments and have not finished outside the top two since 1999. This is only the second time ever that both Argentina and Brazil will be outside the top four in the same tournament (the other time was in 1964). First Stage Group A 1. Chile 12 2. Colombia 6 3. Paraguay 6 -------------- 4. Argentina 4 5. Bolivia 1 First Stage Group B 1. Peru 7 2. Uruguay 6 3. Ecuador 5 -------------- 4. Venezuela 4 5. Brazil 4 Final Stage Chile Colombia Ecuador Paraguay Peru Uruguay http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_South_American_U-20_Championship
The Ref
The fact that both Argentina and Brazil have been sent home packing is a refreshing change for the rest of Conmebol countries.

beachesl
Yes, went to some of the Group A matches here in Mendoza. Argentina just lacked edge and ideas, plus they seemed nervous and hesitant. No help from their fans, Argentinians are the fussiest, most demanding in the world, and they can turn on their team at a moment if underperforming At the Chile match, I was very disappointed to see the disgusting behaviour of my Mendocinean neighbours in insulting the Chileans. Little kids calling them putos and traidores (traitors). The average Argentinean has forgiven the British for the Falklands, but will never forgive them for Pinochet's running a bit of interference in 1982. I teach some adolescents, and these otherwise nice, but spoiled, kids are taught to despise the Chileans by their parents. A small group of Chilean supporters in the north terraces were attacked and their huge flag stolen. The idiot AFA never thought about taking the trouble to have separate sections. Now, the nearby Chileans will never come to the final round, the stadium here in Mendoza will be deserted A terribly organized tournament. After this and the debacle of of last year's Copa America, no way they should get a major tournament again. They and Uruguay have said they will bid together for 2030. A depressing final round without Argentina or Brazil, will have to motivate myself to walk up to some of the matches.
beachesl
Argentina's team was not their strongest apparently. an association with corrupt people inside have cause players to not be called. you got that right.....Bilardo, Grondona and other old dogs from the AFA were interfering, before taking off after the second defeat. They forced the manager to accept two players, Vietto and Centurion, who had never played with the squad before, and to play them at the expense of better players the manager wanted to play. Raw politics and sport have never seen the like. reporters would invartiablydescribe the practices as complete confusion, the players not knowing what was what. I suspect the same was happening in the Brazil camp, their association is complete chaos these days.
Ivanovski94
Its not to different with Uruguay at times. The AUF is runned by Manyas(Penarol Supporters) and because of this they will never take more than a few Nacional players. Nacional's youth team is just as good if not better than the national side. Futbol is ruined by politics.

Esco0428
Final round with 6 teams, here are the results after matchday 1: Chile 1 - 3 Paraguay Uruguay 3 - 1 Peru Colombia 2 - 1 Ecuador The most shocking result was the Chile loss, as they have won all their games in the first round. Uruguay looked pretty good in their 3-1 victory over Peru. Not the most entertaining game, Colombia was able to hold off Ecuador 2-1. One player to watch for the future, Colombia's #10 - Juan Fernando Quintero - who currently plays for Pescara in Serie A in Italy. Outstanding vision and creativity. He is pretty much carrying Colombia on his back. Rumoured to have interest from Manchester United.
