David C.
Canada’s Men’s National Team has named its 22-man roster for the upcoming camp in USA to take place from 19 to 30 January in Arizona and Texas. As part of the camp, Canada will feature in two Men’s International Friendlies. The team will take on Denmark on 26 January in Tucson, AZ (13.00 local) before taking part in a match against USA on 29 January in Houston, TX (20.00 local). The 29 January friendly against USA will be broadcast in Canada on Sportsnet (21.00 ET / 18.00 PT). Interim head coach Colin Miller has stated that the camp will provide an important opportunity to assess the ‘future’ of the Canadian team. “One of our key objectives for this camp is to look towards the future and give some of our young players a chance,” said interim head coach Colin Miller. “It is important for us to take a step forward during the camp and over the course of the next two matches. We expect the young players to come in very hungry and looking to show well for the future of the Men’s National Team.” With an average age of just under 25, this is the youngest Canadian team to be assembled since May 2006. Ten players have earned their first call-up to the Men’s National Team. Eight players featured in Canada’s Men’s U-23 team at the 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament. Mason Trafford is taking part in his first national team camp at any age level. Dwayne De Rosario, Nik Ledgerwood, Lars Hirschfeld and Tosaint Ricketts are the only players on the roster to have taken part in game action during 2012’s CONCACAF third round of FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 Qualifiers™. Following the January camp in USA, Canada has confirmed that it will take on Japan in a Men’s International Friendly on 22 March in Doha, Qatar as the team continues its preparations for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup to take place in USA in July. Sam
Isn't Gomez Gambian? Some weird call-ups in there, especially Frank Jonke....
Yohan
who the heck is Emmanuel Gomez? surely not the Gambian Gomez that used to play for TFC?
Esco0428
Am assuming that no Cavallini means he's staying with his club during training camp... am hoping this is the reason. As for Gomez... I highly doubt its the Gambian that used to play for Toronto FC. I've tried everything and can't find anything on this kid. Club Atletico Griffa looks like an academy/soccer school, not necessarily a club.
adrenaline11
Maybe a little bit surprised to not see Will Johnson's name.
Addona
I think there is another Manny Gomez who played a few games at the youth level ... he's 25, here's his wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manny_G%C3%B3mez
zeelaw
who the heck is Emmanuel Gomez? surely not the Gambian Gomez that used to play for TFC? I thought the same, but according to wiki... He's been outta footy for 3 years?
Big_M
Very pleased to see Jonke called. Good opportunity to see if he can be a good depth player for us.
Sam
So apparently this Emmanuel Gomez is not the TFC one, but a guy playing in the Argentinian 5th division!?!?! I feel like our Voyageurs games last year were probably around Argentinian 5th division quality....

El Hombre
This is going to be fun! Gotta remember to print out that list to take with me to the game, there'll be so many players I won't recognize. I hope Stillo and Bekker see some action. Maybe Jonke too. Gomez is interesting. I feel like our Voyageurs games last year were probably around Argentinian 5th division quality.... The way you sped by me on the flank in Sept. I had you pegged for at least Argentinian 4th division quality ... don't sell yourself short. Quite a mixed bag of call-ups ... will be very interesting to see how this plays out. I hope the young lads are ready to give 'er.
VPjr
These games are being played on non-FIFA dates so some players were not released to participate. This includes Cavallini.
phil7777
No Cavallini, no Piette, no Bernier, no Occean, no Simpson, no Johnson, no Jackson... These guys are not too old not to be called up. Some of these callups we have no idea who they are, others don't even have a club. Prepare to be raped.
1996
Are they only calling in players that are North American club based and players with clubs outside North America who's season is on a winter break? What is the purpose of bringing in players with no club affiliation( unattached) look if your not good enough to be with a club ie. Evan James, then you should not be playing with the national team, they could have brought in other players that are based in North America that are with a club or even outside North America on a winter break that are attached to a club than bring in these unattached players. This is not the 1980's it's 2013 there are plenty of players out there playing with clubs. This looks a bit bush league to me bringing in players with no club teams. loyola
Apparently, Emmanuel Gomez was recommanded to Miller by Joey Torchia, a Canadian scout in Argentina.
Sir Alphonso Applegate
Jonke !! Wow, that's a surprise, good for him. Glad to see Stillo there. Interesting to see Mason Trafford too, aren't he and Fresenga being linked to the Whitecaps?

Yes, I think the strategy was always to get a young team with essentially everyone coming from North America or leagues on break. Hmmm, no Jordan Webb or El-Masri ... would think they'd be worth at least a look given who was called in.

Trafford will not. Maybe FCE though.

Obinna
Anyone have any thoughts on why Porter was called in, but not Saiko? Yeah I have a thought...it is WTF? Seriously though, maybe it was a numbers game. I have only glanced at the list but there seems to be alot of central midfielders: Dunfield, Bekker, Alderson, JBB, Legerwood, Stinson (did I see his name there?) On the other side of the coin, we lack wide players, which is why Porter is there (along with the club-less James) Hope he catches on in Vancouver though. I haven't took a good look at what strikers were called, but my immediate thought was: where are welshman and clarke?
Standard
Saiko has had a dodgy knee for a while apparently. Give him time to rest.
Standard
Why would Welshmen get the call? Would of called up Clarke though.
