It still don't give you sartorial elegance. Lol, deserving winner though. Did you see the FIFA best 11? That team is more of an abomination than Messi's suit. Not to say that they ar enot great players to a tee - but the best 11? Not all of them.
alberta white
Not to cross thread too much I wonder what Wambitch wore? * Edit* Just googled it. So much for a Black tie/ cocktail dress event.

I don't think Wambach owns a dress ... and that suit is terrible but somehow, magically, Messi makes it work.

beachesl
Lol, deserving winner though. Did you see the FIFA best 11? That team is more of an abomination than Messi's suit. Not to say that they are not great players to a tee - but the best 11? Not all of them. Agree. Cannot argue with the front 3, no room for RVP no matter how good he was. Surely there are some better defenders (especially re: Marcelo) and keepers than those named. All are good players tho, and it is all subjective. Cannot say it was a fix. The national coaches and captains of each FIFA nation voted, and the votes of each reported. The overwhelming crush in terms of power of the La Liga players on Real and Barca on tv is probably the reason, no matter how much Premier league is beamed around the world. The Premier League is more balanced, so the best players there do not appear so dominant. In most of the non-first world, most fans are either for Real or Barca, that would be about 160 of the 2005 or so FIFA nations voting. A study that said ManU is the most popular club in the world is the same sort of crapp that says the Super Bowl is the most watched sporting event in the globe, total nonsense. I should point out that Hodgson voted for the same front three.
alberta white
So, nobody voted for the Chelski Bus then? You know, the one they parked in front of goal in the Allianz Arena, back in May.
amacpher
The Premier League is more balanced, so the best players there do not appear so dominant. The EPL's best players don't appear as dominant because they aren't as good. Simple as that. How do I know? Because many of the EPL's best players came from La Liga, where they were very good but not at the level of those forwards and midfielders that made the FIFA XI team for 2012. But I agree about the defense on the all-XI team. Only Ramos deserves a place there based on his Euro 2012 performance. None of the other Barca/RM players stood out. Some even had poor seasons (Alves).
The Ref
List of deserving 11 left out as prepared by a newspaper: Cassio Ramos (Corinthians) Philipp Lahm (B. He could have been third (Messi and Ronaldo easily 1 & 2) but the non-selection and choice of Faolco is entirely reasonable. I don't think there were too many form the EPL deserving of selection, Vidic and Kompany are two from the EPL that may have deserved to be selected. Although I might have gone for Chiellini from based on the little I saw of him relative to the other 4. The defence and keeper most obvious, but there were certainly a number of quality Germans in the midfield who might have been considered and only Iniesta from the team selected is not at least debateable. But as I said above, they are all great players, and those there on reputation have earned that reputation. Lord knows none of the selections are as glaring bad as John Terry being selected 5 times! alberta white
RVP or any other in the EPL will never appear on the Ballon Podium , even if they are adjudged the best player in the world, and this is for one reason alone. They are all far too busy Playing over Christmas. As noted in the other (better*) half of this thread, could you imagine the headache Geneva would have getting Messi to appear on stage if he'd have been signed to Manchester United? "Hello is that Sir Alex? Look, we know you have that big game against West Ham this week, but could you be a love and get Messi on a plane to Geneva so he can pick up a relativley meaningless bauble? Oh, and tell him to bring the Clown Suit" Also, how cheesy are awards Ceromonys that are done in Europe? frankly Its getting to apoint where the UK will be pulling out of europe altogether as far as meaningless competitions go. And yes I do mean the Eurovison Song (and dance) Contest (*Thats better, as in my wife is my Other/better half )
