Colin Miller - Interim Head Coach of Canada

Recommended Posts

According to Tyler Green and Mike Martinago on Full Time on TEAM 1040 in Vancouver, Colin Miller has been named the interim head coach of the CanMNT. Mark Rogers will be his assistant and Paul Dolan will still be the goalie coach. I think Dolan was on the show and said it.

Here's the story: http://teamradio.ca/soccer/colin-miller-take-interim-helm-on-canadian-mens-national-team/#more-20343

Not a bad choice - I wonder if this means we'll see a few more FC Edmonton players in the camp.

If they're calling up the likes of Bekker and failing to call up the likes of Sodade I think that was always in the cards anyway.

Miller's second spin as Canadian interim head coach! Always the bridesmaid...

Pretty interesting development with him being the Eddies coach too. Not convinced it's a great decision, but it's not terrible either. For sure we'll get to see some FC Edmonton players called up which is great for the likes of Saiko, Porter and maybe Hamilton.

Not too sure On KP as an Eddie at the moment. ESG has yet to see a confirmation of him on the FCE wedsite roster for 2013. still, FCE website's alittle slow at time with up to date info.

Not sure how you fail as an interim, or caretaker as the role does not really allow you to stamp your authority the team per say.

sure you get to pick the team, but what budget do you get to drive your modus operandi?

Saying that I assume a full time head canadian coach gets to (or should get to) influence root and branch development on a four year cycle. Or does the CSA still have a selection board mentality like England did Pre- Alf Ramsey?

Anybody?

Oh well, how typical of the CSA to name someone who already failed as interim coach with the nats.

He coached, what, three games? All friendlies, all away? We're going to write off an interim head coach who was probably selected by virtue of being willing and available in Canada on those grounds?

why do i get the feeling that miller will do really well and get pressure by the csa to sign him on full time which will then be just another hart/mitchell fail in 4 years time...

I don't see it happening. I don't think even the CSA would be that knee-jerk.

If Miller does take Canada to at least semi finals in Gold Cup (and unlikely due to FC Edmonton duties), I think he deserves a shot. (unless Hiddink or Guardiola wants to take over Canada lol)

would have been nice to go into these friendlies with a manager, instead of treating it as performance assessment session for Fonseca

Only Gold Cup I see for these two, will be the Communion Chalices in the National Cathedral that would have to be melted down to pay them.;)

still, Hiddink....who have thought he'd up the profile of the Aussies game to the extent he did, eh?

see? this is what happens...

we need a brand new approach; staff, tactics, technical staff...

i don't want to take anything away form miller and i think he could be a good caretaker.

but he needs to be seen as that ONLY. and nothing more.

i'm so sick of these guys that MAY be better. they MAY NOT be better too... and history tells us so.

Eish. Surely we'll have a permanent manager in place by the Gold Cup. Right, CSA? Right?

Miller is as good a choice as any; it's the guy we're going with to get us through a couple of friendlies so fair enough. Not to disrespect him, the "interim" tag is the important one. We've experimented with budget, inexperienced choices and it hasn't worked. I'll be disappointed if Miller is the manager for the next qualifying cycle.

There is a saying in upper level Pro-soccer called "show us yer Medals": That been, "if your so good show us what you won then?"

In Colins case he has a World Cup experience as a player, but has not had top table experience as a coach, Kinda why he needs the FCE job to cut his teeth on., rather than been pulled awat at Nats level for too long.

Personally I'm one for Nat coaches been in their dotage before they take the reign. Well okay perhaps not that old, buthaving at least 5-70 years club experience first

Now I time to come if he's coming in as a coach below the future top man, passing on his experience to the squad whilst Taking FCE to a soccer bowl then Alls good right?

Im happy with this. He is someone who is familiar with the national team and has some pedigree, but someone who is probably content enough with being a place holder until we get someone more qualified. Miller seems pretty happy being in charge of EFC. Im glad they have him, he is a good coach.

I don't care if Miller wins every game he coaches in no way must the same mistake be made like in past years, he should only be interim and nothing more, let's get a new coach period CSA, Miller is only interim no matter how many games the Nats win with him period. Moreover, hurry up and find a permanent coach, the sooner the better!
