jpg75
Guys, i've been having a tough time keeping up with the MOACA these past few months (young child at home -> less free time) and I think it's in the best interests of the board if someone were to take over the task of maintaining the list. Any takers?
Lord Bob
I'd be happy to help, but really is there any reason three or four people couldn't do it?
nolando
I don't mind being one of two or three but also have a little guy and another on the way in March so don't want to commit too much time.
Joe MacCarthy
Guys, thanks for helping with this important contribution. I don't have the time to devote to it as I did in the past and I did my bit so it's up to some new blood. If I may make a few suggestions that would make maintaining the list so much easier for the person keeping track. They need to be able to go all Nazi and delete posts so people will get the message that it is for transfer news only. The MOACA can't be for discussion that has to be in another thread. To keep track and document easily, every post must contain the simple info ...Player X is now at Team X in League X. You can't have two pages of discussion in between because with so many players to keep track of the info just gets lost. Player movement has to be in one thread (the Moaca) The Where are they now thread or lost and found (sorry I can't remember the correct name) has somewhat supplanted the MOACA. So you've got information in two places now. Plus, some people start a new thread for either a big move or because they don't know about the MOACA and add another place where info gets lost. If the new maintainer can get a hold of these issues, (trust me I know, I've been there) it would make things 100% easier for them and allow for more timely and accurate information for the forum. It's so much more difficult now, that if you let it slide for a bit you need to be able to go to one place (the Moaca thread) and catch up from there without having to sift through several pages of non news or search through several other threads. One last tip, encourage everyone to provide a confirming link. Sometimes we forget and someone will post transfer or trial news of a low level player that is a year old. A link will show that. But if everyone helps and follows the tips above if will make life a lot easier (and info more accurate) for whoever maintains the list. Ray, were you the one who started the initial MOACA (not so named) back in the U of A? days. I can't remember the site but wasn't it someone named Ray who had the initial idea and did the work (long before Network 54, BigSoccer and here). ray
^ No, I don't go back as far as U of A days (ah, memories). But I did maintain a list of players/clubs and officially cap tied players for a short time on a later incarnation of the Voyageur site. It paled in comparison to the detail/effort involved with the current MOACA thread, though.

But I did maintain a list of players/clubs and officially cap tied players for a short time on a later incarnation of the Voyageur site. It couldn't have been too long after U of A, year or two? I can't remember where the site was. Stadium North was that it? IIRC the players were in a table format on the site. I think CdnSupporter and Gianluca then took over and my contribution (for my own benefit) was to add the league and level of league because for example FC Augsburg meant nothing to me. But as far as I know Ray, you were one of the first, so thanks. Just one more hint for contributors. Please quote your source, don't steal other people's research. That used to really pee me off when I would see the list posted elsewhere. I used to have a little mistake in it so I knew when somebody ripped it off. This wasn't it, but it's funny how long people used to write Begovic as Bergovic

As a former keeper of this thread, I have only one tip: if we want somebody to take this "job" we need to offer full autonomy for that person to do so in the way they see fit. Ok, if I had one more tip, I'd recommend someone like Madmonte. He has 1000 posts in the last 5 minutes and could probably focus some of that energy on a project like this. At the end of the day, Nolando, JP, etc. will still be doing lots of the research; we just need somebody who's on the board all the time to post the updates in a timely manner. I hadn't replied to the thread, but I will given this. Yeah, I love this forum board, check it at least a few times daily, and I'd be willing to do the job of editing, but I'd need a clear set of rules and guidelines from jpg on what he feels constitutes and international player or prospective player. My own view differs a bit from this thread, but the intent of this thread is to include all POTENTIAL players, I believe? I hadn't responded to the thread because I felt that there were more long term and deserving members of a task like this, coupled with the fact that I had been viewed as a troll way earlier in my posting career here and thought there might be hard feelings with that, even though I've tried to become a more valuable/objective poster, (as I hope you all can see over the last couple months) and learn from you guys on how to do so. But if there is anyone more experienced/long term fan of the national team, I'd "prefer to defer", so to speak, I've only been on these forums about 8 months, and only a "hardcore" fan of the team since 2010...whereas some of you all have been around forever and, quite honestly, have way more knowledge than me about all these players, and therefore more qualified to edit the thread. Gordon
The word troll is thrown around far to easily on this forum. I don't think anyone reasonable holds, or held that opinion of you. The MOACA is about everyone who is a Canadian, and who hasn't decided that he is not Canadian at least when it comes to soccer, playing abroad. Level doesn't matter, not does skill. Undying declarations of love for Canada or their hometown does not cut it for membership when they are lining up - or wish to line up - for someone else. As an end user, I agree wholeheartedly with Joe McCarthy about playing hardball with the clutter posts and I agree that you would make a good custodian of the thread as I believe that the two key pre-requisites are interest and presence on the forum. Well, that and not being a troll ;-)
Joe MacCarthy
Blast from the past Canadians Overseas April 14, 2000 Canadians Abroad August 31, 2000 A couple of notes. I notice the league and level are in the lists. I don't recall if that was a suggestion by me or if I added it later to lists from BigSoccer that did not include them. So I could be taking credit for something I didn't do. It always seemed like our players congregated in certain places (by same player's agent perhaps). This was the Scotland/Germany era (much better than the more recent Finland era) What goes around comes around. Remember when new NT interim asst coach Mark Rogers was a player on the NT stage? Here he is plying his trade for the Wycombe Wanderers Scary post from May 31, 1999 Goalkeeper: We are very deep at this position. Forrest is our no. 1; Onstad, a very credible no. 2. Larkin may be no. 3 but has to contend with young Franks and Hirschfield who are being groomed to be our next Forrest-Dolan combo. Wingers: The left flank is well taken care of. Speedy Brennan is solid defensively and progressing offensively. He is backed-up by Jazic, who I would like to see more of. Still around after all these years. Here he is plying his trade for the Wycombe Wanderers Doesn't he hold some record that he's the only player to be called up to an International while playing for Wycombe? I thought I read that years ago.
A_Gagne
A quick thought: - Agree with comments re: MOACA should be for transfer news only, as opposed to discussion - Perhaps the job would be more feasible if it was tackled by a working group with several people, each in charge of keeping the list up to date for a specific geographic area. E.g. A 9-10 person working group: UK/ireland, Scandinavia, Northern Europe, Southern Europe, Balkins, Eastern Europe, Asia, Middle East, South/Central America. Toje
Not that there is much work, but I will keep an eye on Macedonia, Czech Republic and Slovakia. I can also try to keep up with the rest of Eastern Europe as well.
canadianfoot
Don't want to make false promises but I can take care of Poland for sure we got like 3guys in Slask Wroclaw with potential, and a couple in lower leagues, so fairly easy to track. I am going to start a separate project for the forum so will focus my time on that instead as it's in the works.
