What planet is Kamal on? His second paragraph, and thus much of the subsequent 'analysis" makes no sense.

On the face of it this proposed deal seems to have little or nothing to do with the three Canadian MLS clubs. However, taking a closer look at it, if this were to go through, it could actually aid in laying the groundwork for Toronto FC, Montreal Impact FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC to possibly pursue something similar with the North American Soccer League (NASL).

Whattaya mean, "nothing to do with the three Canadian MLS clubs"? It is a deal between the entire ****ing league and the USL Pro. Nowhere have I seen anything suggesting it is only between the MLS clubs located in the US and USLPro. And FYI Mr Toronto-is-the-center-of-the-universe, The Whitecaps already have a team in a USL league, the PDL, which served, in part, as a reserve team in 2012. I happened to be there when Long Tan scored the only goal in a 1-0 PDL game vs Victoria Highlanders. Every time they played us they used players from the MLS roster.

What really makes me shake my head is the nonsense about the NASL. WTF does an agreement between MLS and the USL have to do with a totally separate operation?!!?! The already have relationships with all these teams and organizations so I fail to see how a system that connects thew first and third divisions makes any closer relationship between the first and second division more likely.

Not strictly true (there were no MLS Whitecaps when they played Victoria in Richmond on July 8) but definitely true in spirit.

I was going to comment on this as well. I was wondering why he said this had nothing to do with the Canadian MLS clubs.

but Ted it's all hypothetical at this point, this isn't a wind-up but what happens if this USL Pro/MLS Reserve League merger fails to include the Canadian teams? Is pursuit of franchises in the NASL worth further investigation? Personally I'm not sold on the NASL, but it might be worth a discussion.

Not a wind-up at all but it seems highly unlikely to me that the Cdn MLS teams would not be part of a league-wide agreement. If somehow it was to happen then there are lots of options being discussed already. None of this has anything to do with the NASL.

As it happens I see great value in more NASL teams in Canada. I have been quite vocal that we need more pro teams at ALL THREE levels. However, the NASL is not, from any viewpoint, a vehicle to improve reserve teams for the MLS. There should be loaning of players to NASL clubs but that can be done on a player-by-player basis between clubs as is done very successfully in England and elsewhere. There does not need to be some league-wide contract to make this happen. There is a big difference however between loaning a player and playing on a reserve team. A reserve-team player can be called up at virtually a moments notice. A loaned player is on a time-specific contract with mutually agreed on terms.

I should have said "...every time they played over here..." Maybe this year I will get to an away game in Vancouver.
