DJT
Guidelines for this thread In this thread post match updates on all Canadians abroad for December 21, 2012 - January 3, 2013. If you find updates posted in some other thread or on the other Voyageurs forum then post them here as well, but be sure to credit the original poster. If there is news that is particularly significant (eg. someone scores a big goal, someone gets injured, etc.) then feel free to begin a new thread on that topic in order to draw greater attention or start a discussion, but also post that news here. Some comments on news posted in this thread are okay, but let's not let this thread go off into a long discussion. If the news already appears in another thread (as per the previous bullet) then post your comments in that other thread, otherwise if you want to say something significant or if it is likely to generate replies then begin a new thread. Grizzly
Holland (2) Veendam 2 - 1 Sparta Rotterdam, Jordan Santiago starting, Sparta's equalizer was a penalty. Maybe Veendam is just playing really well now but it can't hurt that in the last two weeks they have beaten the 2nd and 3rd placed teams in the league. He has now played 3.5 games for them with a win in the game he came in at the half and two wins and a loss in the 3 90 minute games with the two wins being against top teams. So 2.5 wins out of a possible 3.5 since he has been the starting keeper.

Grizzly
On the 23rd Sivasspor got back to winning after 3 straight losses with a 3-1 victory at home against Elazigspor. Can't fault Milan on the goal as his defender dives for a high ball for which no dive was necessary and ends up heading it straight up in the air near to an attacker instead of up the field and the attacker one time strikes it as the ball is dropping right into the top corner of the net. Sivasspor go into Turkey's short winter break in 10th place. madmonte
Anyone know what's going on with Adam Straith? Hasn't played in a game in Germany's 3rd tier, Saarbrucken, since Nov 10th. Started becoming bench fodder, and now not even making the squad sheet for the last 3 games...for a guy who has been on our national team a number of times I'm sort of surprised? BearcatSA
David Edgar seems pretty anonymous of late. What's up with his season?
1996
Joseph Di Chiara listed as playing in Hungary's top division, anyone know if he is playing, is he on the bench, what is the latest on him?
youllneverwalkalone
^He was on the bench against Igor Pisanjuk's Egri FC in October. That's about it this season.
xcalibre
Steven Vitoria scored a free kick for Estoril today. Top scorer for them this season. Have to imagine he's getting back on the Portugal radar (once he's cap-tied I won't bother posting updates). Similarly Jono de Guz scored yesterday in the Prem. EDIT: Vitoria just scored a penalty to go 2-1 up, I think he's captain as well. Here's a video of the earlier free kick: http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/steven-vitorias-brilliant-free-kick-estoril-v-fc-porto/
1996
I think the Steven Vitoria case is a classic example of a player that was never scouted by probably his district, his region, provincial team and ultimately the national team. I know that things are changing but having coached youth soccer I saw many players with potential never get a look by anyone. I remember calling provincial coaches to come scout our league but no one ever came, and were talking about top level youth leagues. Sometime these coaches are just there for the paycheck and don't go the extra mile to look for talent with the result you get the Steven Vitoria's of the world who go unnoticed their whole youth soccer careers. I think the soccer culture in Canada is changing and will become more professional, with professional teams out looking for talent now there should be less chance of this happening in the future. BearcatSA
Edgar came on in the 61st as Burnley defeated Wednesday 2-0 Seems to have lost his place as a starter in central defence?
canucklefan
Seems to have lost his place as a starter in central defence? I can't resist to comment on this issue. I noted that he, along with some other players, saw himself with less playing time after the 8- 1 defeat against Honduras. Is there some correlation or it's just coincidence? I personally know players in the CSL and even u20 canada and yet I also have friends who are far superior in talent then a great deal of those elite players. Alex_K
Today there is an article in the local paper on the players who are out of contract at Eintracht Braunschweig at the end of the season, including REB. The summary on REB: - couldn't live up to early promise - needs to significantly improve to have a chance for a new contract - would be out of his league in the Bundesliga in case of promotion - prediction: in case of promotion he won't be offered a new contract either way That being said, the sports section sucks anyway. As for my view: Randy seemed to be back in form during his last few appearances. However, he is the only forward out of contract for next season (excluding Kumbela, who the club wants to keep for sure, and Zhang, who is only on a loan). Given that Eintracht will probably sign at least 1 or 2 new forwards, especially in case of promotion, I fear he would be on of the candidates to be let go.
